Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

    How bad does this paint look?

    Hey guys,

    Looking to buy a GTI..

    1999 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GTI 4th Gen Private Cars For Sale in NSW - carsales.com.au

    looking at this one, but ripping all the crap stuff off it.. Anyways, do you think the paint just needs a good detail or what?

        Does it look like laquer peal? If it is not laquer pealing off then a good compound should bring the shine back to life.

        EDIT: I nearly choked when I see the price of that 1999 golf. The prices in Australia are crazy high comparing to here. Here is a nice example with no bad paint at 1750 euro asking price VW GOLF GTI for sale in Dublin: &euro;1,750 - DoneDeal.ie
        Would it not pay you guys to import from Ireland?

        There are so many bargains over here now due to the recession. Lately, I picked up a Passat tdi Sport 2002 6 speed in mint condition for only 1350 euro.
