I can do it for you for $1000 with way better productsMy dealer just sent me an email offering me Interior/Fabric/Carpet Protection, Window tinting and Protecth Gold Paint protection for $1400.... Is that worth it? what does carpet protection even do? They claim with the paint protection I won't have to wax the car ever, is that true?

Hi wyeann, welcome to the forums. I merged your thread with this one in the detailing forum. There has already been discussion on this topic so please read through the thread to find your answer.

 G|Techniq is a nano-sealant.
Opti-coat is an aftermarket clear coat which is harder and has hydrophobic properties which removes the need for a sealant.

Stoneguard/3M PPF is a physical barrier against stone chips/anything else which might impact your car's surface.

So you need to decide what you're attempting to do. My entire car is covered in Stoneguard and G|Techniq as I intend to keep it for ages and I'm sick of getting lots of stone chips messing up all my hardwork in having a beautifully maintained car. But close up (<1 or 2m), Stonegard doesn't look as good as the original surface... or not at least until you start getting stone chips.

Stoneguard is probably more sensitive to acidic contamination than your regular clear coat, hence why you need to put something like G|Techniq, or even Opti-coat, on top of it, and make sure you carry around some bug wipes or quick detailer and a cloth to remove dead bugs and bird poop asap. Maybe if I had the Opti-coat clear coat on top of my Stoneguard it wouldn't be as sensitive.

But then, if you're in the city and always in bumper to bumper traffic, stone chips might not be an issue for you as it is for me and you could just put Opti-coat on, or even just buy some Nanolex Paint Sealant from Car Care Products and take care of things yourself Last edited by Corey_R; 05-05-2011, 03:51 PM. Corey im sorry but a car has a clear coat on it already. Opti-Coat is Polymer Sealant. Not "CLEAR COAT" - What Is Automotive Clear Coat. More Clear Coat Info. Unless its "Actual" clear coat, you might as well get your whole car done in a Ceramic Clear if it hasn't been already one in one as its one of the strongest you can have. Found on Audi's, Mercs, BMW's, Porsche, Lambo's, Ferrari's etc.. Not all VW's tend to have it though.

601+105 Duragloss is a Polymer Sealant, Zaino is a Polymer Sealant, Wolfs is Polymer and Nano, CQuarts is Polymer, G|Techniq/Nanolex is Nanotechnology which has hydrophobic properties like any other sealant or wax as well.

Actual Contact Layer Protection "stoneguard/etc etc" is simply that. A type of vinyl adhesive to protect the paint which does discolour. And if you get a big enough stone chip or scratch/damage on the paint work that hits that and the paint, when you peal it off it will take your lovely paint with it too or extend the missing paint prior.

Personally, Nano or Glass (not available in aus, and you are looking at $700+ trade for a small 50ml bottle) is the strongest sealant.

Regarding stone chips, to respray a bumper is almost cheaper than getting the whole thing 'shielded' as such in 2 years time to be honest!

Heres some good info on nano for everyone to watch, and its our favourite Hammond from Top Gear!

Why wouldn't he be serious?Originally posted by REXman View PostI cant tell if your being serious?

You've never had to replace your windscreen due to a stone chipping or cracking it?
Or maybe even experienced the "rainbow of speckles" whilst driving into the sun at dusk or dawn in a perfectly clear car - the speckles appearing due to the "sandblasting" of the windscreen over time.

 Source:
Opti-Coat is a hard wearing, aftermarket clear coat for superior resistance to scratching (measuring 9/10 on Mohs scale) and chemical etching from environmental impacts. It provides permanent protection for all factory paints and can also be applied to exterior glass, metal and hard plastic surfaces.

 ...

Opti-Coat is not a paint protection wax or sealant that will wash away, or break down over time. Opti-Coat bonds permanently with the factory coating, protecting the surface indefinitely and will not delaminate. No waxing or polishing is required.
I know you've already said it before fuzion, but if you really think that Optimum are lying, then why don't you take it up with them or the relevant consumer bodies in Australia? If they're flat out lying, ain't they committing a crime in this country?

People can make their choice. Never said they are lying. But read what their company name is. something polymer.

Im out of this conversation as its so funny how ........

I would highly recommend as well then to tell everyone not to bother with their clear coat, and a ceramic coat on prestige cars are also a waste. lolWhat’s behind you doesn’t matter..

Well anyway... as I said if you think they're lying, take it up with them or the appropriate authorities. But lets not get any personal interests/conflicts in the way by telling people that a product is something else than what they claim it is unless you have proof.

My views are my views, from experience, from what i have seen, from what i actually know.

MY utter hate is people being taken for a ride or money for things that are not exactly what they seem (not saying this directly) in general or given information which isn't entirely true or exactly what they are getting / what they pay for.

Someone chooses to do what they want to do and win or lose from it is their own choice. Forums are about opinions.
