Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

It was the $4,500 I was quoted that made me not get the VW one. I would have been pretty cheesed off if I had paid for a VW unit and found it substituted. As it was I ordered an anti-theft alarm and had to accept one fitted by the dealer otherwise it was going to be many months to get an original one. That is OK as I simply wanted it to work with the one remote, which it does.

I ended up getting an ANS-610 and am more than happy with it. It was a straightforward unplug and plug in affair. Sme MFD functions related to the radio and phone do not work (which I knew of before I got it), but it is not really an issue, particularly as I can get something like 7 of them for the price of one original VW one. I have received two phone calls, and the callers were not aware I was driving at the time. The navigation is all I want (and a lot more). About the only flaw is that where the unit mounts, the trim has a slight curvature, but the ANS-610 plastic fascia is flat meaning that the bottom of the unit sticks out by around 1 mm. not a problem and those who have seen it have not realised this.

No NOT Chinese - it is made in Germany
Credit where due, I sent an email on a Saturday to them (Zenec Aust) regarding registration for map up dates - it comes with 12 months free updates and they replied with a phone call by 10.00am on Monday - to me that was impressive service - their upgrades are free and they claim their map updates are only a fraction of what Skoda will charge for theirs - although I can't find the cost for map update on their web site - strange ??

In the photo you can just see the blue SD card that I'm running the music from
Think it is a 2gig and has about 600 songs on it - works well enough
But the 30gig hard drive would be better and probably quicker than the SD card too

But at the end of the day it still lacks the Voice Control
and doesn't have the onboard 30gig hard disk
        (sigh)

As I said before I feel ripped off and treated like a "mug"
Just hope that Skoda Australia can do something about it
This will probably be our last new car (I am now retired) and this has put a real dampener on it

30GB Hard disk is actually quite slow. There are a few people who have swapped them out for solid state drives but apart from that you are better off running a 30+GB class 10 SD card. You can get SD cards with transfer rates upto at least 95mb/s.

          Happy Days.

I had multiple quotes and they were all around the $3000 - $3200 mark.

There is another sat nav unit available for the yeti overseas

Good luck with Skoda Australia. I bought a 103TDI DSG at the beginning of the month. I'd almost excluded it from my list until I saw the pics of the Skoda box on the website and in the car/accessories brochures. My skis won't fit inside the Yeti (I took the skis to test it) but they will fit in the box displayed. After I test drove it I decided the Yeti was the better buy but I ended up buying it from a different dealer. I got the bars and box thrown in with parking sensors, 5 year warranty and mats etc for $34k. When the box turned up it was the Thule Pacific 100 (with Skoda badging) which is only 139cm long and definitely too short for skis.

The dealer was great, he tried another box from the Superb but its way too long and he's been in touch with Skoda parts but with no luck. I've been in touch with Skoda After Sales but their initial view is that they only supply one box in Oz and I got the box that I paid for. They said they would contact the dealers I went to and see what they could do but weren't very positive and I'm still waiting.

My view is that, even though they have that small disclaimer in the back of the brochures, the websites and brochures are misleading as it variously mentions both 380L and 370L boxes but showing only one type from different angles. Relying on fine print didn't save Apple from $2m+ fines here over the iPad 4G advertising. They also list the box as 370L but the Thule site describes it as 330L. There are 2 boxes available overseas and the NZ accessories brochure is much better at displaying them. They should really detail the dimensions and not just the capacity. I'll wait and see what happens...

                Hey guys

                $3000 - $4500 for the sat/nav - phewww

Wai, I can see why you went with ANS-610
Saw on another post where they did a bulk purchase and from memory it was under $600
You don't mind missing out on a couple of features for that price

As I mentioned, this will probably be our last new car so we sort of just looked at what we wanted
and I'm sick of the Navig8r being stuck on the screen - magic unit and very well supported
but decided to splash out and have it all nicely fitted - the other add ons are really just a bonus
Like the sound system - it is great

We looked at the all up drive away price - we were looking at the demo unit until we found the super special in Sydney for the same price as the demo and Bryan Bryt agreed to match it. That's when it went belly up when they tried to save a few bucks. But all along the salesman, Michael, I think, kept saying "no problem if it isn't already fitted, we will swap one from another car and it will be the same as factory fitted". So that was what I was expecting but sadly didn't get.

                Joel
Thanks for the heads up on the hard disk speed
I have ordered an 8gig sd card on Ebay and will this will hold all the music I could ever want
In passing, I found a 2gig USB memory stick was slower than the SD card -
By slower I mean the time it takes to register and fire up when I start the car
When I remember, I switch it over to the radio before I turn it off, then it fires up much quicker

I hope I don't get flamed for hijacking this thread

Just check the class as most are only class 4 (15mb/s)

                  This is a cheap option.

This thread has been dead for ages. You reincarnated it as a different topic.
