  • Is the yeti pricing fixed yet?

I was a bit sad to see that to relieve a dealer of one of the many Yetis they have sitting around, the quoted driveaway prices (for diesel DSG) vary from about 42k for the stripper model to over 50k for a loaded example.

For the $ range, looking at dealer demos too, I can find a Tiguan -- or for 50k, a base Q3! That is ludicrous. A top line CX5 with a three+three year warranty, or a Toyota with fixed price $130 per service, for six services. AND all those cars are harder to get hold of so there is less need for the dealer to bargain.

    So I'm wondering what's up.

What is a decent price for a near fully loaded TDI Yeti ?

Skoda has always been positioned as the fully loaded Audi/VW, rather than budget Korean brand. So the price is as expected. For people who wants badge, then spent the money for the barebone Audi. For people who want value, but also care for the badge, VW is the balanced choice. For people like me, who care about value more than anything, Skoda is for me. They are virtually the same car.

Of course, I wish it is cheaper. But compare with some of the other Euro brands, Skodas aren't that bad.

Mazda CX5 is the leader in this segment. However, according to some reviews, because of it's low ground clearance, it has zero off-road ability. So it really is a suburban family wagon, rather than a real 4WD. 2.0TDI Yeti would be better for off roads, this makes Yeti a better 4WD than CX5, and justifies its price premium, although most people buy SUV just for suburban driving.

Also don't forget Mazda is only doing well in Aus, for some reasons Aussies have a great love for Mazdas. So it's no surprise Mazda Aus would bring their best here with competitive pricing. I haven't driven CX5 yet, but my feeling is, once you have tasted European, it is hard to go back to Japanese. Perhaps someone who have driven both Yeti and CX5 can give a more objective comparison.

As for Toyota, there is no comparison. I don't understand why would anyone buy a Toyota. It's boring, got no handling, no engineering, and looks cheap. it's only for people who don't care about cars, they just need an appliance that'll get them from A to B. So generally they are the worst drivers, driving at 60 in 100k zone, changing lane without signalling, running red lights....etc. Next time you see a car accident, check it out, 99% it will involve a Toyota.

As already noted a Skoda generally will have way more equipment than a base model VW or Audi so actually price the installed options in your comparison rather than just blindly quoting prices that are not direct comparisons.

Having said that the dealer has to start somewhere and they start at the Skoda recommended price unlike some Audi dealers (like the one who tried to charge us $800 extra for the "optional" steering wheel that was in fact standard on the model we were looking at). Skoda dealers do deals, they do much better deals than VW or Audi dealers and if you can't get at least 12% off the list plus some extras thrown in then you haven't even tried.

I have been quoted $35,000 drive away for a manual diesel Yeti with roof racks, rear sensor, 5 years warranty, mats

When I was looking at both the Tiguan and the Yeti, apart from the obvious omissions, such as climate control and auto dimming mirror on the Tiguan. On closer inspection I noticed that the VW was fitted with Hankook tyres and the Yeti was fitted with a decent set of continientals. They may be priced very close together, but take a closer look...

Looks like there's a summer offer on for the 77TSI yeti (4x2) at $25990 and $27990 drive-away for the manual and automatic. That's about $5K off the RRP. I wonder if that means they do deals on the premium models as well?

Seems to have improved a bit ?

Just adding this to the thread as a sort of "update" as of what's happening Sept/Oct 2012

We weren't looking to buy a Yeti 2 weeks ago, funny how quickly things can change
Saw one in a showroom back in May and thought it was cute
Anyway, just put down the deposit on a 103TDI DSG
Had to be an ex stock vehicle - got the lava blue - and quite happy with it
              Interesting "negotiations" though
Best offer was a white/black roof demo with 5K, SatNav, rear parking sensors and Off road buttom,
$35K drive away with 4 1/2 years warranty and 6 months rego

Then we found a "deal" in carsales or one of the internet sites
New 2011 plated TDI DSG SatNav and leather seats - OK by me -
didn't really want the park sensors or the Off road button
Was $35 drive away (in Sydney)
And by chance, I will be there this weekend so could have driven it back

Dealer met and actually improved on the deal that was advertised
By improving, his car already had rear parking sensors and off road buttom fitted
              So they were "thrown in"

Ended up with a 11/2011 plated, New 103TDI DSG (although the VIN code shows 2012 build)
with SatNav, rear sensors and off road button
Seats and door trims will re upholsted with leather same as factory but without heaters
Don't need THAT in Queensland !!! Cooled seats maybe ??
Plus full 5 years warranty for the same $35 drive away

And he will supply a towbar and electrics at cost, for me to install later
Car has Towbar prep, so not all that hard

By my cal's that is about $14K off full retail
I know nobody ever pays that, but it is a lot better than what he originally wanted for a new car
              Anyway we're stoked
Can't wait to get it - next Tuesday

              Cheers

              Chris

Congratulations Chris - sounds like an excellent buy. It's a fine car and I'm sure you'll be very happy with it.

                  Thanks "NotYet" - hope so

It seems like a great car and buying it should all have been an enjoyable exercise
Unfortunately this wasn't to be the case

Well, it was a week or so more, but we finally got the call to pick up the Yeti. I asked which sat/nav was fitted so I could look at the manual that I had downloaded. He advised that it is not the factory unit, rather another brand that is fitted to the VW cars.

                  Oh-oh. Not sounding good.

When we arrived to get the car, I said that I was far from happy with the non-factory sat/nav unit, but the salesman, rather smuggishly just said "I never told you the sat/nav would be a factory unit".

Outraged, I reminded him that on at least 3 occasions when both my wife and son were present, he had said "we will swap one out of another car so it will be same as factory fitted" He then said "they wouldn't let me do it", stood up and walked away.

At no time did he say that the sat/nav would not be factory, as if he had we would have got a beige car from Prestige Skoda that DID have factory sat/nav and leather seats or the one from Sydney that was similarly equipped.

                  So that was it.
I have been ripped off and treated like a FOOL (which I am not).

Every time I drive the car I have this sat/nav unit right in my face reminding me that I was treated like a mug. NOT a nice feeling
Seems like a nice car, the leather is ALL leather, great job, but sadly we do NOT enjoy driving it.

My ongoing worry is that the diffs have been packed full of bananas and the speedo has been wound back a minimum of 50K (joke) (sick)

Anyone contemplating buying a Skoda would do well to say away from this mob in south Brisbane
Will be contacting Skoda Australia to see what they say - will post any result

                  Not a happy Yeti owner

PS Saw another Yeti yesterday - was parked near Beenleigh - first one (apart from ours) Same colour too

As a matter of interest, what brand sat nav is it?

I was only aware of one sat/nav unit?

As far as I was aware, apart from appearance difference, the VW unit is the same behind the cosmetically different front.

                      Can you post a picture?

                        Hi Wai

                        The sat/nav is a Zenec NC2011D

                        [IMG][/IMG]

Quite an impressive unit in itself but it doesn't have voice activation like the Columbus

My gripe is that I was told one thing to get the order then bush whacked
In true sloppy fashion it wasn't set up either - I had to get the parking sensors working (on the screen) plus the aircon diagrams
It is made for the VW range of vehicles and it looks much like the Columbus -
Again my gripe is that the car value has been compromised

All I want is what I was sold - no more - no less

                        Winge, winge, winge

77tsi should have the Swing radio. Looks like this:

Standard 103tdi and 112tsi in 4x4 should have the Bolero radio. Looks like:

And the optional Columbus sat/nav with 30GB hard disk. Looks like:

Appearance wise there is not much differance between the Columbus and the Bolero. I always have to get a close look to see if there is 3 or 4 buttons on the sides.

I think it model is RNS510? It doesn't matter weather you buy a Skoda, VW or a Audi, you get the same unit, just with a different badge on the front.

                          Happy Days.

That's a different story then mate. I would bring up the fact about the voice control. Show them the brochure and ask them to get it the non-existant voice control working. If they cant then go to fair trade. Or ask from a $3,000 refund because that's what the sat nav option is worth.

                            Happy Days.

Was trying to upload a photo of my sat/nav
looks very similar to RNS510 and the guy at Zenec said that it was in fact a better unit
                              What ever that means

                              Thanks for your comments
Yes I agree that it should be the Columbus
Bryan Bryt at Mt Gravatt is the dealer concerned

Sorry about all the grubby fingerprints - but it is a touch screen
