  • Considering a steering wheel upgrade

    Hi all,

Having had my Superb for all of 3 weeks I'm finding myself looking longingly at the paddle shifters that come with the UK spec Superb. A bit of research has pointed me to several websites -

Carsystems - pricey but have a lot of stuff
Skodatele - very responsive to emails and good on price

My question is has anyone done a MFSW upgrade on a Superb? I presume that the 3spoke MFSW with paddles is the same as the one in the VRS minus the badge?

I have contacted my local dealer who initially quoted $150 ish for the install of the new steering wheel but subsequently advised me that as Skoda australia does not provide this as an option they will not be able to do the install and coding.

I'm in Brisbane and I'm looking for info on local Euro mechanics that might be able to help me with this or If anyone on the forum has done this and what path they took.

    Thanks

Similar issue in Tiguans - they don't come with DSG paddle shifters.

There's a few that have done this upgrade an carsystems are good (but as you say pricey).

There's a big thread in the Tiguan section on this upgrade - http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...uan-56968.html

Jmac on this forum would be a good starting point

After about 50 years driving only manuals I'm enjoying letting a smart technology look after the gear changing for me
I think I'd use paddles a bit like I used the sun roof, five times a day in the first week of ownership then forget it exists! I still look forward to hearing how your proposed mod progresses.

I have paddles and use them ALL the time. Gives me easy control of the engine. I have only ever used Auto once when I was in Canberra and concentrating on the roundabouts and slip roads. Used Sport only a couple of times too, once when having a play with launch control. People complain the paddles don't rotate with the wheel but I just give the stick a push if wheel doesn't line up with the paddles. The paddles and push button tailgate are the best features of the car because they get used ALL the time. OK, the engine is pretty good too and I use that as intended.

While not a Superb owner I have fitted a Superb paddle wheel to my Yeti TDI. Got it from skodateile in CZ - part # Sup2-139. Fitted and used VCDS to enable the paddles myself. The tricky thing was the air bag - we'll the first time anyway....
I love the paddles and run my DSG in manual mode just about all the time...Ian

I have just ordered the steering wheel from skodateile. Ales has been great to deal with. Looking forward to its arrival and install.

I did some work on my Octavia, very easy to do yourself, coding is also pretty straight forward, PM and I'll see if I can you some tips. You'll also need a M12 Spline head to remove the steering wheel bolt I believe...airbag is easy, small flat head screw driver will work...

Thanks for the tips. I'm still waiting for the wheel to arrive. Here's hoping that it isn't lost in transit. How long did it take for yours to arrive?

I got mine local but from what I hear they arrive pretty promptly. There is also a guide over in the Octavia section with pictures but I found YouTube videos from a mk5 gti much more helpful!

After a long delay, during which I was sure it was lost in transit the steering wheel finally arrived today. Now to sort out the install.
