Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Stop auto shut down when I get out

Hi. I often wish to get out of my car to grab some items and then get back in and drive off.
I also like to leave the radio on during this time.
Currently my Skoda superb '16 will do the following
    - if I leave the engine running it will stay on until I reopen the door at which point it will turn off, forcing a manual restart.
    - the radio will turn off after a few minutes
Is there any override for these settings?

Probably done for safety reasons I lock my car at the servo while filling it up and would never leave it with engine running, which if you are more than 3 m away is illegal anyway.

Why do you want the radio to stay on if you arent there.

Probably can be altered with appropriate tools but not a very logical thing to do

I might need to jump out of the car to grab something quickly. Eg from a storage unit I can drive right up to.
It seems to cost about 5km on the distance remaining for each restart, so would prefer to leave running .
Or if I'm going to be longer I'd like to turn off but leave the radio running while I'm there which I can do easily with my iLoad van.

I guess so, insofar as that's the default? If I'm sitting at traffic lights it will stop to preserve petrol, but restart via the accelerator.

Press the S/S button then and as I said its probably to save you from yourself leaving it running. It actually is programmed to stop to lower emissions NOT save petrol as it will only save 2 poofteenths each stop anyway..

Iloads are probably quite a bit less sophisticated than a Superb.
