  • 162TSI vs 206TSI Wagon

    Evening folks,

About to pull the trigger on farewelling a French Wagon for a new family hauler. Am keen to avoid the SUV / Dual cab brigade hence looking at a Superb Wagon or, Subaru Outback (6cyl)

First and foremost, does the 206
TSI really warrant a (retail) $11,300 price difference over the 162TSI? Understand that AWD and Image Pack is included in the 206.

Real world driving will be hauling
wife and three kids on a 100km commute to/from school/work each day at a prescribed limit of 100km/h thanks to NSW/ACT Govt’s. If the TDI was still available, I’d be buying it purely for low fuel consumption.

I’ll still get my thrills with a 6C Polo GTI but still looking for a decent wagon to raise a few eyebrows.

Really appreciate ANY feedback on your own personal experiences on why you chose 206kW vs 162kW.

    Cheers
    Stu [emoji41]

    Here is my 2 cents...

After owning many, many Passat's (B6, B7 & B8 variants - both sedans and wagons) I am more than happy with my ŠKODA Superb 206TSI 4x4.

I loved the diesel economy in the past and for your application it would certainly help with such high kms.

I never considered the 162TSI, I went straight to the 206TSI with the works...

Mind you I did not purchase new, mine was a dealer demo and that certainly helped with the parity of price between the two models.

As with every single VAG vehicle I have owned in the past, the "wheel hop" off the line in a FWD sucks...

The 206TSI is a weapon off the line, absolutely sure footed and NO WHEEL HOP!

Hence the claimed 0-100km/h of 5.8sec vs 7.0sec for the 162TSI (sedan) / 7.1sec for the wagon.
I have seen video and printed info of 5.4sec 0-100km/h and 13.7sec 0-400m (165.1km/h) being a more accurate figure.

I am sure that once they are both on the run (say 80 - 120km/h), they would likely be fairly similar.
My bet would still be on the 206TSI though...

Considerably bigger brakes and a Haldex 4x4 system should also be considered in this comparison.

Have you considered a VW Passat Alltrack?
The Subaru would not be on my shopping list...

I have no regrets with my ŠKODA Superb 206TSI 4x4...

Maybe you should over look the Sportline as it is just cosmetic and no change to the vehicle.
That might save you some money.

Oh, I have also had many wagons in the past.

The Sedan has a boot size of 625L and the wagon 661L - they are very similar!

Personally I loved the look of the Passat in a Wagon and not the Sedan.

However I love the Sedan in the Superb and not so the wagon... Go figure!!!

Thanks for the constructive feedback OPE126. I’m happy to walk away with a 2018 MY19 (MY18.5 even) with existing stock so can haggle away.

Dealers with fully loaded 162’s are as low as $43k for some and $53k for others.

Looking forward to having a run this weekend in a 206 for the first time. Took advantage of Skoda’s 48hr test drive last year in a 162 Sedan.

Test drove a 206TSI this morning.

Whilst still not convinced that a 206 is worth it over a 162, am certainly sure on what colour to buy..... gorgeous! A mate joined me this morning and will likely put a deposit on the Octavia vRS Wagon. Last on the manuals...

Best bit is, am privy to ‘national pricing’ so be keen

Right now, I’ve got a fully optioned (both packs and sunroof) w tint and towbar silver 162TSI priced up at $51,500 on road.

I test drove both the 162 and 206 back to back before settling on MY17 162 with Tech & Comfort Packs for 46 drive away.

Everyday driving - the difference is hardly noticeable.
Performance is the same driving around town and highways.
I test drove in dry conditions though. I'm sure in the wet, the 206 would out shine with traction.

Did u settle on the Quartz Grey? It's a nice color.
I was tempted, but I got the Business Grey.

Great to hear about the price. Seen a wagon online in Sydney for $45,650 drive away! So your price and the above sounds great.

Would love a Quartz Grey. Lennock just took delivery of a white 162 Wagon with all packs but no sunroof. Got them working hard on a good price. With my trade, might be a $35k changeover which is exciting!

Maybe we can have a Canberra Superb meet... lol [emoji23]

I bought a 206 wagon last July (2018MY) and I absolutely love it. I didn't drive the 162 as I got a spectacular deal on the 206 ($48k drive away with comfort and tech packs, it was a demo) I actually took the car for a 48hr test drive, and a couple of hundred metres down the road from the dealer I'd decided I was going to buy it

It's ridiculously quick for such a large family wagon. With the 4x4 you can use all of the power anywhere. I've only managed to break traction a couple of times and it had to be driven pretty aggressively to do it (accelerating hard from standing start in the wet whilst turning will get a slight bit of wheelspin)

So after all that, will delay to 2020. My accountant overruled and said to run one more year of tax on my Polo GTI.

Got a 162TSI Wagon with all options plus tint/towbar priced up at $43.3k via lease today. Amazing how over the space of four days, price drops $9k in the market.

Really appreciate your feedback all. Greatly appreciated.

Not at all... quite the opposite as she’s maximising tax deductions

I’ll still get a Superb, just in 2020. Maybe even cheaper given the facelifted model has been announced....

Oh bugger.....we'll wait another year then.

As for the article - it's incorrect. MY19 Superb is already out and on sale here in Oz.
The facelift model will b MY20.

I'm not sure when the MY20 will hit our shores though.

I’d be interested if there are any 2019 “built” cars in Oz right now however.

MY19’s are plentiful but all built in 2018.....
