  • Stop Start Issue MKIII RS169

Hi, anyone had this issue. Had the car 3 weeks and twice now I have stopped on a slight incline and stop/start has stopped the engine and when I have taken foot off the brake I start rolling back. I found that the engine has stopped completely and I have to put the car in park and start the car manually. Thankfully it hasn't been a big problem because it has happened whilst entering my driveway/garage. Thought I would post this here in case it is a known issue before I talk to the dealer tomorrow. I did see something about a problem whilst in ECO mode but I am in Normal mode.

If you want to save a minium amount of fuel put up with it ,or you can turn it off especially in summer ,When you stop at traffic lights and your sitting there sweating ,

Happened to me once - same situation as yours: Normal mode, during an incline, engine basically died during the start-stop activation & gotta manually start it up again. Car was less than 500kms then.

Since at 2.5k kms now & never had a similar incident after that.

I don't think whether I want it activated or not is the issue here. The issue for me is/was whether there is a design fault that is causing this or it is just a quirk. I could just turn it off but that wouldn't answer my question. Thanks wingzee for your comment on your experience with this. I will watch with interest as to whether it occurs again to me or was just 'one of those things'

Sure thing. Wasn’t concerned about the issues as I thought it’s among the quirks of a start-stop system (this is my first car with a start-stop). Good that you brought this up so I know that I am not alone.

Slightly off topic but I already had errors thrown from the Blind Spot Monitoring + Rear Cross Traffic Alert at about 800kms. Just appeared outta nowhere saying “Systems currently available”.

Nothing a OBDeleven can’t solve but does concerns me given the car was than a month old back then!

Tks for that info. I check with the OBDEleven every weekend and have found that I am getting an error of "current too high" in one of the modules but can't remember which one at the moment Doesn't seem to be affecting anything though so I just keep clearing it

anyone getting constant errors and system failures should see a dealer ASAP

don't clear the errors, leave them so they can see the failures. even if the system is working ok again, leave the errors there.

Could that be the start-stop system or battery?

Well the issue is if I don’t clear the errors in my case, BSM & RCTA wouldn’t work. And the error was something that reads “databus info missing”. I believe despite errors been cleared, OBDeleven or the module does maintain a log?

u have an issue with ur start/stop system - i would get it checked out by the service dept immediately.
the car should not roll-back, or die after the start/stop has been active!!!

i haven't come across this behaviour, even on an incline.
i do have auto-hold-brake switched on all the time though - 1st tap on accelerator to wake the car from start/stop, 2nd tap to disengage auto-hold and get moving.

that's the point where you should be taking it in. when things don't work and errors are present.

we cant diagnose your car online. it has an issue, let the manufacturer fix it. this is what warranty is for

OBDEleven says battery is fine but you are right, it could be the start-stop system. I will speak with my friendly Skoda Service people about it

Fair enough - did booked a service slot with dealer but thought since got the OBDeleven handy, why not?

OBD11 is a great product, and VERY handy to have in cases like this. but the fact it kept happening means no amount of OBD11 resetting will fix it
