Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Reverse Camera

    Hi all,
I am very new to the forum (joined today).

I have a 2014 Octavia wagon with tech pack (park pilot, sensors, sunroof ect) but no reversing camera.

The wife and I are due to have our first baby in the next few months and she really wants a reversing camera. I contacted several Skoda dealers in NSW and they have told me I only have two options.

    1. RVC fitted and image displayed through a new rear vision mirror (w/o GPS) for around $1200-1300.
    2. Completed upgraded head unit which has RVC GPS and DVD for nearly $2500.

Both these options seem overly pricey and wondering if anyone could reccomend any other options for aftermarkets products. I had a look around the forum but could not find much for idea with suppliers/fitters in NSW.

    Any advice would be great
sorry if I missed a post that solved this for me.
    Cheers
    Ryan

There are quite a few solutions in this long thread on the Briskoda forums: new feature, simply clever - Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 onward) - BRISKODA

It starts with tailgate opening, but there's a lot about reversing cameras later. The parts and methods get refined too.

Depends how handy you are too. I have retrofitted a RVC to my mk2 when reverse camera was never an option. Displays through std columbus head unit.

Installing into a Mk2 is pretty easy. Only issue you need to watch out for is getting clean power for the camera.

            Hi VRsJas
What camera did you buy? Do you have a wagon or hatch?
Looking at putting one in my 118TSI hatch.
            Cheers
