Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • MK3 Octavia TDI - disabling start/stop and other VCDS mods

My brother owns a 2014 Octavia 110TDI and was asking me to attempt to disable the start/stop system as he hates it. The start/stop system in his car had a mind of its own (would turn itself back on even after he disabled it while driving), so he was keen to bypass it altogether (he never used it). So i researched some other VCDS tweaks for the Mk3 Octavia/Mk7 Golf and i changed the following....i thought other Mk3 Octavia owners might be interested in trying it themselves.

    - Disabled the start/stop (used the battery voltage method as the temperature method did not work)
    - Enabled gauge sweep on startup (speedo and tacho)
    - Enabled memory on the HVAC system so that the recirculate air function stays selected when the car is turned off and back on again (the default is that it always reverts back to non-recirculated air which is annoying)
    - Enabled memory on the heated seats so that it remembers what setting you had when you turned the car off.
    - Enabled auto closing of windows if rain is detected.

What VCDS mods have you done on your Mk3 Octavia?

All these changes are reversible of course if you ever wanted to disable them.

Hmm the auto closing with rain used to be in the MFD in my Mk2, sure it isn't there still?
