  • Shell Helix Ultra Extra 5w-30 disappeared off shelves???

Octavia Scout MkII 103TDI PD DPF

Have been running Shell Helix Ultra Extra 5w-40 since I started doing my own oil changes; 507.00 approved. Used to buy it from Supercheap but it has disappeared off their shelves and I cannot find ONE oil with the VW 507.00 designation at either Supercheap, Autobarn or Repco. The Shell website doesn't even list it any more There is Shell Helix Extra ECT but it's not listed as 507.00 approval listed.

I ended up getting Castrol Edge FST with a big label 'DIESEL particulate filter suitable' and it's 0w-40 ('this product exceeds: API SN/CF, ACEA C3 ... approved for BMW Longlife-04 (diesel engines only)'. Surely I can use this without fear that I'm committing a grave error? Or should I at least go with 5w-30? This wasn't available in the same product - and I'm guessing 0w-40 would better suit Oz summer driving conditions anyway? Or am I again tempting fate???

Can anyone shed any light on the Shell dilemma ... or the 507.00 issue? I've scoured sites and threads but can't find a definitive answer. Giving me the sh*ts!! Why does it have to be so freaking hard?!

The Shell extra 507 should be 5w-30 shouldnt it It has also been renamed to something else 5w-40 is 502 /505

      As said Penrite Enviro+ is a 507

      The newer version isnt

There is a Castrol edge that is 507 as well

I always buy the Penrite when is on special for about $69.

Dealer oil is usually about $93 Castrol longlifeIII

Shell Ultra extra is now called this Shell Helix Ultra ECT 5W-30 - Australia

        504/507 is only 5W30.

Valvoline, Castrol, Penrite and Shell all have approved oils through Supercheap.

Valvoline Synpower XL-II 5W-30 and Castrol Edge 5W-30 are often available at Supercheap and conform to VW's 507 spec. Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30 also meets the spec but you might have to hunt for it.

Thanks everybody - I saw the Helix Ultra ECT and did wonder if it had replaced (in name) the Ultra Extra - but it doesn't have the VW 507 desig, whereas the Ultra Extra did. I'll head back to Autobarn and look for 5W-30, though the 0W-40 looks pretty smick.

Its not if they "Conform" Its if they have "Approved " on the label. Nulon says its "suitable" which is vastly different to being approved

Just buy the Penrite its cheaper and I have been using it for 10 years in my Cruiser and now both VW's. Supercrap and Autobarn usually have it on special regularly

Can't speak highly enough of SuperCheap Auto's "Club Plus" program.

Even if you have to pay full price one day, as soon as that item goes on sale, you are given a credit to match the discount price.

Sure, said credit can only be spent in store but who doesn't appreciate more AutoGlym or Megiuars gear?

Autobarn stocks Liqui Moly Toptec 4200 as well, which is also approved.

Nulon, Gulf Western, and Hi-Tec claim to have suitable oils for these, but have not sought to invest in seeking actual approval from VW/Audi, so I'd not even bother with them. Espically from a warranty stand-point.

Penrite enviro + in the a3 pd with dpf and the octavia cr with dpf.
Why? Because it is Australian owned as well as having official VW approval. Not conformed but approved.

Supercheap, autobarn and repco all stock it.

The label on the Nulon oil now says that it is "Approved" by VW under the 507 spec.

Using the approved Nulon for the past few months - works well! Usually by around 5000km's, i need to do top up roughly 500ml, but only had to top up 200ml or so this time around.

Car felt smoother too on acceleration etc (don't know if this is placebo)
