Email Notifications Failing (mostly Telstra)
Hello everyone. Seems there is an issue with Telstra (possible others) blocking email from our server. If you are trying to sign up I would suggest a different email if possible. If you're trying to reset your password and it fails please use the Contact Us page:
if it were possible at all, i would imagine it would require the following at a minimum:-
1. new steering wheel with paddle shifters
2. new steering wheel controller
3. vcds coding changes

Not a gimmick, I use them all the time on my R. When I'm away and renting normal golf I miss them. Use of them would also incourage my wife to correctly place har hands on the steering wheel!

So no one done it?

Do you really think your missus would be bothered?
We've had about 3 cars with paddle shifters (inc the current one). Wife never bothers. Thumb in bum, mind in neutral. They just like to wear the brakes out as quickly as possible and attempt to put peoples head through the windscreen.
It's been done on other VAG cars inc Octavias, Jettas & Tiguans. So maybe search for those for some hints & potential issues.
It's a suck it & see situation. You probably need a wiring loom from the steering wheel to the controller. Sometimes you need to change the controllers, other times you just need to enable the flappy paddle channel in the controller.
carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums
Thanks, i'd like to know before putting money down to buy the car, otherwise we'd probably step up to alltrack or second hand A4 avante/allroad.
If no one has done it, thats simple.
Paddle shifts are a gimmick. You ll use them for a couple of days then get bored with them.
Definitely not a gimmick! I used to use them a lot - even when hiring Skodas in Europe, my fingers would instinctively reach for them even when they weren't there. I'm also getting a Scout and this is the only thing that I'm sad about.
What you need to do is get someone with the model Scout you're looking to buy to run a VCDS autoscan to work out what steering wheel control module it's running. Likely if it already is running a multi-function steering wheel it will have the controller that supports the paddle shifters.
It's not a difficult job to retrofit but working with airbags is a hazard - suggest getting a professional to do it. Job shouldn't take more than 30 minutes with the right tools.

All you have to do is search the forum for several examples.

No problems. As brad says just run a search for paddle shifter retrofit and you'll pull up a number of threads on the topic. There's even a few youtube videos if you're keen to DIY. I have personally installed a Golf R wheel into a Tiguan and it was relatively straight forward once the airbag was removed - which is a bit tricky the first time you do it.
