  • Bluetooth help...

    Hey guys...

So I'm on the lookout for a bluetooth solution for my octy ii, but need to run something by you all in order to make the right choice. My octy came with the rns510 with phone provisions, steering wheel phone buttons and has the Mic in head liner for the voice commands.
Would i be right in assuming that i would only need to obtain a bare bones bluetooth system ( hopefully legit vw) and have the coding done to unlock function on the head unit? If it were a matter of installing something behind the head unit, id be comfortable doing that until i could get someone to do the coding or whatever. Or am i being wishful in thinking this could be easy to a degree...
    Cheers!

Easy retrofit, you just need a 9w7 kit with harness to wire it in, and Mic goes in the headliner.

I bought the 9W2 kit for my 2007 Golf with RCD300 from a seller called vw_parts_aus on eBay a few weeks ago. The seller was recommended on one of the other threads here (actually they recommended him on Gumtree, but there was a link to his eBay pages there).

He coded it before he sent it, I installed it myself and it just plugged in and it all worked beautifully. Tell him what you have and he will make sure you get the right bits.

I also bought a ~$10 trim tool kit from somewhere else on eBay which made things much easier. Note there was a fair bit of trim disassembly to get the mic into place (don't know if the Octy is the same but on the Golf the hole is there for it but the mic is not fitted so you have to run it up there yourself)... trickiest bit was getting the A pillar trim back on properly.

      Good luck.

So we're talking an additional mic to the one that is already factory installed where my map lights and such are situated? My octy has factory voice recognition. Sounds promising. Cheers

Thanks for the reply mate. I'm still unsure about the mic situation as i have a functioning oem one installed already but that might be a good question for your ebay contact. Thanks by the way, will definitely hit him up. Does the 9W2 allow for music streaming at all or just phone connectivity. I'll chase up some more specs on the 2 models mentioned later tonight. Thanks again!

If you already have a Mic it just needs to be connected to the bt unit via the Mic out pins on the RNS. The BT kits harness should provide for this.

It does the music streaming too but no control of playlists etc. I was pleasantly surprised how well it worked.. it even takes over with the car mic and speakers when you say "Hey Siri".. so you can voice dial etc.

Re the mic.. definitely ask him.. he was very helpful.

Thanks kamold, sounds encouraging so as soon as some $$$ appear out of thin air I'll bluetooth me up! Cheers for the info, appreciate it.
