  • MK3 Oil Warning Light

So was driving into work this morning when all of a sudden the oil light came on in the car, pulled over and checked the dipstick oil was pretty low - topped it up and all good now. Only had the service done two months ago (first service) my question is this normal for oil to drop so much straight after a service? I spoke to the dealer who said to keep an eye on it?

    Its a MK3 octavia dsg

    thanks

No, if you can't find any oil leaks it wouldn't surprise me if you got the new guy who didn't know to fill the oil then run the motor for a little then top it back up. Once you have put that bit in it shouldn't drop any more otherwise there is a problem.

The manual states that some oil loss is to be expected. I've topped up my car's oil with about 1 liter of oil since the first service, which was done last October (10k KM worth of traveling).

Motor can burn up to 500ml/1000km, if it is using over that then best to have it tested for oil consumption. But I can tell you now, haven't seen a MK3 tavia burn oil and wouldn't expect too after they fixed the issues on the EA888 block through the last run of models.

When you say "first service" do you mean the 15k/1yr service or the unofficial check they offer at 2000km which doesn't involve an oil change?

These engines use oil when new. Some even use oil right through the ownership experience. It's unusual to get through the first 15k without an issue and then have oil consumption after that.

After the service did you open the bonnet & check all the levels (and the tightness of all the caps)? I know you shouldn't have to but I've found incorrect oil levels & loose caps several times - dealers are pretty hopeless.

Yep have heard many stories from family members who are mechanics that find oil spraying everywhere after driving off as the oil cap wasn't put back. The best one was some friends recently who drove off, heard a really awful sound and stopped in oncoming traffic. Turns out none of the nuts had been put back on one of their wheels and it came right off.
