Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Service coming up

    Hey guys,

I have a 75k service coming up so will do the general stuff but also looking to do a few others things that are required.

    1) What spark plugs do you guys recommend
    2) What brake pads are good that are also dustless
    3) What oil does everyone use - I normally go for Motul or Liqui Moly which im happy with but I found out about my goodyear eagles from you guys so happy to take on your ideas again.

    Cheers,

    Daniel

Plugs are due every 60,000kms. Genuine are fine, as are Bosch.

ATE Ceramics are the latest in dust-free pads, and they stop just as good as genuine.

Oil is up to you at the end of the day. As long as it's 504/507-approved, you can't go wrong.

I'd stay away from Motul with long service intervals. Saw one workshop constantly doing rebuilds on Nissan GTR bottom ends due to owners using Motul oil and only servicing once a year(>5000km). Coincidence maybe, however I've never had issue with Castrol/Pentrite varieties.

As Umai said, plugs were due at 60k, so have a check if that was all done correctly, otherwise you should be doing a major.
