Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Thanks. I know that sounds obvious but there was no previous indication of battery trouble. Still I will charge it to check.

Those weird traction control, ABS warnings etc all seem to be common for flat batteries. My Santa Fe did the same thing for a day after being jump started.

I only got 3 years out of my Octavia battery I figured the Bathurst cold might have killed it. I've got a Superb now and I read somewhere that their batteries aren't up to the job of running all the convenience so expecting that to happen this winter.

Flat Battery, happened to my GTI. Got 4 years out of original battery so got same again from VW. I think it was about $240 with a slightly improved battery.

Thanks to all. It was indeed a dead battery. I panicked when I seen the MFD message "ESP fault" and immediately had thoughts of serious dollars to replace some failed electronic gubbins. The slight cold snap dropped the battery into "Not enough juice to crank the motor territory" Hollered for a Marshall and $260 later we are good to go. Once started, had to move steering from lock to lock to make ESP warning light go out.
Thinking, in the case of an almost dead battery maybe VAG could work on an alternative MFD message to "ESP Fault" Something like "Battery Kaput" ?

If you scanned the car for fault codes, you'll find that pretty much every system in the car will have logged a low voltage fault code or two.

The battery in my 2007 1.9pd mk2 was still going strong when I sold it last year.
