  • changing VRS wheels for comfort

    Hi Guys,

I know this goes against everything I believe in but looking at changing the stock VRS wheels to a set of 16s to soften the ride. Has anyone done this or got any experience on how big of a difference this will make?

Other than not looking as cool does it have adverse effects on anything else? I would imagine a bit more body roll on corners?

    Cheers!

16's won't fit over your massively big rotors.
You will have to go at least 17's.

      See https://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums...vrs-73054.html

Body roll will not increase by any noticable amount. Steering may be a touch less responsive. Ride will improve massively and grip may well improve on bumpy roads.

If you haven't gone BBK, they'll fit

Awesome thanks guys, so the rotors on the Mk2 will fit over 16s fine?

Did you read through the other thread I linked?

I wouldn't go smaller than 17" wheels personally. I think 16" wheels will look a bit silly on the vRS.

The 17" wheels will still give a nice comfy ride with a good range of well priced tyres and a nice sidewall depth to give a compromise between looks, handling and comfort.

Although if you are hell-bent on getting 16" wheels, here are some off another Skoda for sale in QLD: 4x Skoda Octavia 16inch alloys w/ Toyo NanoEnergy 3 tyres

                  Hi Lucas,

I hear what you're saying about looks wise but honestly at the moment the ride factor is much more important as I'm taking a lot of clients around and the harsh ride over dodgy inner city brisbane streets is not a nice experience for them.

I'll be keeping the 18s to put back on in a few months once that is no longer necessary. I am actually purchasing those ones you linked already. Just for the tyres alone while I'm smashing the k's for the next 3-6 months it will be well worth it.

                  Thanks.

16" fit fine on 312mm rotors. Ideally, find some A4 Audi rims which are 16x7.5 ET50 and have 225/55r16 tyres. They are cheap as chips - you almost can't give them away.

If you run 205/55r16 it will look under-tyred even though that's the OEM size

There's about 10mm clearance between the rotor & the rim

I just posted an update on the link that Kaanage referenced above. Looks like you found 16x6.5s the same as mine. Be interested to hear how you are finding them.

Yeah been running it for about a month now on the stock skoda 16x6.5s and have to say the difference is incredible. I was planning on it being a short term thing, get my money out of the tyres and then sell the wheels off for next to nothing and get some new rubber for my 18s.

Honestly I'm going to be hard pressed going back to the 18s as it is so much nicer to drive, I notice the slightest bit more body roll which is negated by the extra grip I have not bouncing all over the road.

I hated the look of them to start with compared to the neptunes but now I'm use to seeing them they look normal to me.

This may be just the different tyres but I've done a couple of launches and it even takes off better, no hopping or skipping.
