Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 2010 vRS Control System for Exhaust and EPC lights - limp mode

Was crawling in traffic for ~40 mins when idling went out of whack. Engine light came on (called exhaust in manual?), then EPC came on and it went into limp mode. I got a tow from Skoda Assist to VW Rockdale (they use Toyota service over the road?).

Any ideas what I might be up for? Only 51000k, and just got the service warning light, guess that is for 4 years. I was expecting only an oil change. hopefully not timing belt? maybe a sensor? or a coil pack? been searching all afternoon, but no clear answers (lots of diesel related stuff - mine is the petrol 6sp DSG). Thanks.

Coilpack wouldn't be unusual. Scanning will most likely give an accurate cause.

Got a call today - low compression in one cylinder. They are going to have to break it open for look. They say they are treating as a warranty issue at this stage, which was nice. Not sure if this is a common problem?

Have they given you any updates? I had similar issues with my vRS, turned out to be a faulty inlet manifold and clogged charcoal canister.

Not yet. They are still diagnosing. Is yours a petrol? I wonder what a charcoal canister is? Fuel filter? I was down to 1/4 of a tank on Monday and filled up with 98. Broke on tues morn. Been using 98 most of the last year. I think I used 95 before that with the odd 98 thrown in.

            Yeah, mine is a petrol.
            Charcoal canister is for emissions.

Apparently they are fitting 4 new Pistons and head. Hopefully ready on Friday. All treated as good will by Skoda/VW Aus.
