Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I was looking (2nd hand so no waiting) If I didn't get the Octavia it would have been either a yeti in manual (rare!)

    an Audi A4 S-Line
or a a Mini Clubman, I wanted the mini but the ridiculous amount wanted for a tow bar knocked that on the head

Forrester TDI. At least Subaru will still sell you a diesel with manual gearbox - unlike Skoda now.

Have you driven one? It has absolutely no nuts. Gotta rev the bejeesus out of it. Not to mention the dpf issues they have. Avoid Subaru diesels. While you can have dpf issues in any new diesel, there are certain models that have lots more issues than other due to the way they handle regeneration. Mazda's diesel is another (although the Mazda diesel is gutsy at least)

Subaru DPF issues seem to be fixed now. Neighbour has had an Outback 2.0D with CVT for about a year and it hasn't had an issue at all, even though most of their driving is around town.

Meanwhile, the Golf driver across the road is enjoying his VW sourced Europcar i20.

What would I buy if not an Octavia vRS? Good question and I have considered it.
My diesel RS will be 3 year old in Dec and I will keep it maybe for another 12 months and then what? If the delays continue to be ridiculous I may try something else and the thought crossed my mind that for the new price of a RS I could get a low kms 2012 BMW 320d or 328i. Probably the equipment level won't be comparable to the RS and brand snobbery is of no interest to me so the question is would I be getting a 'good as' or better car?
I don't like the thought that VW might be trying to push me into buying a Golf by rationing the supply of Skodas, but then again the wait for a Golf GTD may be similar.

All other wagons were auto only (Mazda 6, Mondeo, i40, forester).
You found a manual AUDI wagon?? I would have bought one except I couldnt get a manual. Although I did want a diesel. AUDI dealer told me he couldnt help me and to buy a Skoda. How's that for an up sell???

I is really hard to get a manual diesel, in anything. Skoda Australia dont even do one now. So now if I want a manual diesel wagon, I cannot buy a VAG car in Australia.

Guess I will have my current RS for a very long time....

FG-X G6E Turbo looks a close match to Octavia RS for price and spec, closer than most if you ignore its size and fuel consumption and accept 270+kW of stonk. When is it released I wonder... It's now almost $10k less than the outgoing model's RRP.

No active cruise, no xenon's, no wagon. Crazy fast in a straight line, yes. Rwd which is great, but, another 5-8k over a fully specced Octavia. For less tech.

Edit: xr6t seems like the real value buy now
