being tight-arse Aussies who love to run everything on 92, they see the 95 as being the default
TBH i'm fine paying for 98, as long as the engine runs fine with it. As a last resort 95 would have to do if no gas anywhere to fill up!!

But i'm happy we don't get de-tuned versions of cars that can run on 95 to save some monies.... so Happy with 98 as I know the GTI/RS/R VAG models have the performance engine! It'll be like putting normal oil in the car rather then performance oil!

I wouldn't bother with digital radio, reception is so bad. If there is a station you like you can always run it via your phone and Bluetooth/cable.

They are too bright to my liking but many people love them. I must admit that they help with reversing in the dark lol

To any owners with DSG and the RS button/driver profile select. Is the exhaust note different at all when selecting 'Sport'? And more importantly, is the DSG 'Fart' audible?

When i took one of the early ones for spin, we had a play with the settings but I could not note any dramatic difference. I watch video's of the GTI and it has a distinctive and very noticeable fart. I have also driven the R and when put into 'Race' mode it is dramatically different.

              Thanks

                Bump.

Any news on dsg 'Fart' . I read elsewhere that this was not evident on the Octy IIRC.
Not really relevant to me but I think this topic should keep tracking !

It definitely farts with an aftermarket exhaust. But i didn't notice anything either during my test drive.

I test drove both the GTI and the RS. The RS doesn't have the fart like the GTI has

The car I drove did not have the mode selector. But from video reviews, I have never heard of the pop when changing gear

I was completely unaware of the pop during the first 3 or 4 months of ownership
You need to be outside watching the car accelerate hard (to redline) to hear and appreciate it

You're probably hearing a Soundaktor-type device (fake engine sound) in the GTI/R. I don't know why VW just doesn't make the exhaust sound sexy from the factory but there you go.
                              Its all a lie. :p

Just an update on a couple of months of ownership of my Amb+ Tech Pack DSG wagon. Some observations so far:

                                1. Great Bi-Xenons headlights- pure white light and good spread on the road. Look good too.
                                2. 1.4l is fine for puttering around town but there's a big rush from the turbo on acceleration which seems jerky in normal mode. Eco mode is smoother and doesn't seem to affect acceleration that much.
                                3. 1.4 l -No problems hitting 120km/hr + with very good stability. The car seems to settle at higher speeds. Doesn't seem to run out of puff at freeway speeds. The 1.4l is one impressive engine.
                                4. Radar distance sensor actually works. Warns you if you need to brake urgently and will do it for you on the appropriate setting (which I haven't tried yet)
                                5. Bluetooth flawless with an iphone for calls and music.
                                6. Side Mirrors not as good as my Scout which left virtually no blindspot.
                                7. Noisy over rough surfaces at speed but otherwise quiet. Looking at possible tyre change.
                                8. 1.4 l engine very quiet at idle.
                                9. If you are think of getting Cappucino, consider the black pack with 18" black wheels. It really enhances the look of the car.
                                10. Economy 6.7 with 90% city driving. Should improve over time but comparable my diesel Scout at the same mileage.
MY2014 Skoda Octavia Ambition Plus Wagon, DSG, Capuccino, Tech Pack
MY 2010 Skoda Scout Manual Silver -traded
