I've had the rear inside guards foam/metal bracket cut, else it would have shredded tyres, daily, let alone towing.
I've had VW-Racing springs (Martins old ones) for around 100,000km now, so not adjustable.

The front doesn't poke much, if at all... but on hard cornering (hill climb - Macquarie Pass ) the fronts will scrub on the top of the wheel arch. No paint damage yet, so fingers crossed!

Some risk of the 235's rubbing the guards during larger suspension travel
(Lex had this problem but I don't know what wheel offset he was using)
No problem with 225's

How much do the VW Racing Springs lower it from stock?

Not a good option, car can bottom out and have dangerous reactions
If you want to go lower, do springs and shocks together, $$$

If you're going wider wheels, get the inside metal bracket on the rear guards cut off. Else it *will* shred your tyres.
Stock 18x7.5 ET51 is not a problem, but x8 ET45 most definitely is. Won't be a problem at stock height on a flat road, but once you get some suspension flex into the mix it'll end in tears.

Yes, stick to 225 - they are already decent sized feet and we know they work well
You won't see any improved street handling from 235 and are likely to get a bit more noise, plus rubbing issues
Unless the 235 tyre was cheaper I just wound't bother

Back to the original topic, I have been looking into this
The Mk1 Octavia was a lot different
The Mk2 Octavia is a shared platform and the transplant is possible
I've talked to a few wreckers, I just can't make the numbers work, better to buy a 4WD/AWD
(Not interested in shipping the gear from Germany)

For now I'll have to entertain myself replacing LED's in the instrument cluster

What sort of outlay would the parts come too from a local wrecker? I am still pretty keen on this going ahead in the near future.

I guess finding a frontal damaged Scout that is a write-off would be the preferred route, complete donor to pillage parts from where does one look to purchase written-off cars from apart from classifieds?

That Scout is a MK1 - the rear suspension may be very different to our MKII's
I would love to get one onto a hoist and check it out

You're going to be spending ~7k on parts easy (more if you want the R32 brakes)
Then there is a the labor
Then you need to get the Haldex controller working with the car

Don't you mean the Golf Alltrack?

The R-line is only the body kit + lowered suspension but the Alltrack will be an AWD version with raised suspension. I guess you could tune and lower an alltrack and end up with an AWD sportswagon.

Will still have to see what engines this one comes with.

Hmmm I thought the scout would be the same chassis/platform as the Mk2 Octavia that could complicate things, It would be going past stage 3 to a BIG turbo and forged/built engine I really want to go pretty nuts on it maybe even an engine swap to a VR6 but I don't want to load the front with too much weight Would an R32 donor car be the best solution do you think?

It will be a long build process though with more kids and a house on the cards, hopefully with a nice garage/shed for building cars in

I recently watched the Mighty car mods 11 sec gramps build and it has really motivated me to build my own car as much as I can, I would save on labour and learn some awesome new skills along the way.

I'm really excited about the prospect of an AWD Octy RS with a savagely built engine, can't wait to finally start the work...!!!
