I priced the belt from the UK for the 103tsi and it was 40 quid/ $70. That's a lot of labour cost in there..... But if it's still in warranty sounds about right.

Yeah most of the job is labour. Getting the water pump done then as well was a good score as they usually need doing by then anyway.

Was tossing up to get water pump changed at the same time but they wanted to charge extra and recommended that it wouldn't need doing, Bonus all round for everyone when the leak was found.

I'm planning on getting mine done for sanity. Its not like they lose if it happens later on.

In order to replace water pump, the timing belt needs to be removed, so there shouldn't be labour charge to do the timing belt, only the parts. What they did in the service, for $1145 less timing belt kit?

I suspect the labour cost to get to a point you can remove the belt is what you are paying for. That's why it's prudent to do the pump at the same time, add replacing just a water pump would be the same labour as replacing the timing belt. Likewise if you need the pump done, might as well pay for a new belt at the same time as the belt itself is cheap.

I paid $1,250 for my 135,000km service (couldn't afford to do the timing at 120,000) which included aftermarket water pump, OEM belt kit with new tensioners etc etc and normal 135k service.

The dealership wanted $890 for the belt kit alone(!) so I don't know where you're reckoning "the belt is cheap" ... Even the place I went to reckoned the belt kit was exxy.

I looked at a UK dealer.... That's the price they listed for a brand new continental belt (OEM replacement)

EDIT: just checked, the link I clicked wasnt a dealer, but a spare parts place. Timing Belt SKODA OCTAVIA Combi (5E5) 1.4 TSI ( 103 KW / 140 PS from 2012 ) - Timing Belt / Set

However, you could safely assume you could find a place, overseas that shipped a kit for much less than the stealers want for it here.....

EDIT2: here's a link for the scout (4x4 tdi) Timing Belt Set SKODA OCTAVIA Combi (1Z5) 2.0 TDI 16V 4x4 ( 103 KW / 140 PS from 2010 ) - Timing Belt / Set - that includes VAT (20%) which you wouldnt have to pay in oz.......so assume that would roughly be the shipped price (around $230-240 for the kit)

Considering the std stealer fee for a 60,000km service was around $900, $1145 including belt & water pump sounds relatively good value! Mind you, I did my own 60k service and saved $600, all genuine filters, Haldex fluid.

I assume your Scout was a TDI? I'll do the belt & pump myself when the time comes - currently on 75k. Did you get a dash error code for the Haldex pump?
