I guess I'm back to the Ambition with Travel Pack plan then.

AFAIK the only difference between Ambition with Travel Pack and Ambition Plus are:

- Height-adjustable driver and passenger seat with lumbar support
- Rear side air bags
- Passenger Protect Assist
- Fatigue Detection

Does anyone know of any other differences?

There's a rumour that the Aus MY15 Ambitions will get the Bolero (touch without nav) instead of the craptacular Swing. If you're is a factory order it'll get upgraded for free though.

Dealer told me that if I order now the car will be a MY15, but I'd still pay for the 8" Columbus.

Surely they wouldn't be so silly. The Swing is the main reason I went for the Ambition. Lucky I ordered when I did.

The bolero and ability to option the Canton is one of the main reasons I went the ambition plus. The swing looks like a Toyota unit from 2000...... I know functionality is the same (well sort of, you don't get the park sensor display like you do on the bolero)

You do get the sensor display and it works quite well, though it isn't in colour. The point is pretty clear though. There are some that prefer the simpler unit and some that prefer the touchscreen. I wish Skoda would stop eliminating options for the Australian market!

I wish we could have all options! I wanted sunset glass, but it's no longer an option..... Even the Amundsen as a cheaper satnav (looks identical to bolero but with sat nav)

What is a Swing?

And Ambition has no height adjustment!? What the!?
Isn't this standard fare on most cars over 20K?

How can you get comfortable without height adjustment!?

Driver's seat is height adjustable in the Ambition. The passenger seat was available with height/lumbar adjustment as an option initially but this seems like it has been removed from the options list now.

Has anyone got a photo of this "half" leather seat you get as option?

Also does Bolero with Canton sound as good as Columbus with canton?
Does Bolero have A2DP steaming bluetooth audio for music?

I couldnt find a photo, but details of the option as well as the dealer both lead me to believe it was similar to the rs (i.e. leather on the bolsters, not in the middle)

Canton with bolero can stream bluetooth audio. The car I got a listen to was a bolero + canton (in an ambition+) and it seemed very good for the $$$ you pay. Apparently once the speakers have been run in properly, it sounds better (according to briskoda). It's no after market system, but at least it has some bass, and is decent for the coin you pay. My wife would never let me upgrade the car with aftermarket stuff (you'll deafen the kids!), but loved the canton and agreed we should get it (after having a listen). Its not a bad compromise for me

So feature wise.. are Bolero and columbus similar ? obviously there's screen size and NAV, but other than these things?

Bolero is the sam as amundsen (not an option in oz) minus the satnav. Columbus, has the larger screen (already mentioned) more inputs (2 x sd card slots) and can do 5.1 video and sound. Columbus also has a in built HDD, to store the maps on, as well as music/video.

Bolero's features are the same as the swing in the base ambition, just with a touch screen so the park sensors look better, and raise the level of the interior a little.

Im sure you can find the columbus manual and bolero manual (links on briskoda, or visit skoda.co.uk ) to get more in depth details, but I think that's most of them. Columbus is a great option, but I feel its just far too expensive for what it is.

EDIT: I would have been all over the sunroof like a fat kid on a chupa chup, except the wife is very fair, and feared that she "would get burnt". I understand, I think she gets burnt off the reflection from my sunnies on road trips. She's never had a sunroof, so doesnt understand. years ago I had one in a v6 626, and it was bloody fantastic. More expensive to insure though....

Same as the Nav in the Golf 7, so yeah small screen and crappy ipod integration over USB. If you're happy with streaming audio over bluetooth and changing playlists using the phone not the head unit then its not a bad unit.


The Columbus does connect to the Canton unit digitally, and supports 5.1 surround sound from DVDs and Video files but I doubt you'd notice a drop in audio quality with the Bolero.
