Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I got a Haymann Reese one installed on my 2010 Octavia last year and am happy with it. The place I went to (Mr Muffler in Prahran) also offered the OEM version (from Bestbars). More info in my post here:

Can you tell me how much it cost. Did it take long to fit?

There's a couple of towbar threads in this forum with other links - there's one bunch that does the Euro style fold-away towbars but the name escapes me.

$1195 including wiring, installation and their "Full package" - hitch lock, premium towbar, spanner. It took about half a day to do. They quoted me $1445 for the Bestbars version (no cutout needed on the bumper), including the same package. This was last year, so prices may have changed, and there may be some differences with your MY14 setup - my car doesn't have reversing camera or rear parking sensors, for example.

It's my understanding that the OEM Skoda one will be released some time this month. Probably by Best Bars, whom produce the others for the OZ market.

Fitted my own (excellent threads on Briskoda). I bought the bar & wiring kit from Iron Bull in Brisbane and Jeff (owner) gave me help when the wiring didn't look like what it should have. It's a Euro bar, no cutaway req, removable neck. I think I paid $670 all-up. He fits for $350 and travels the cities fitting for major VAG and Merc dealers, so knows his stuff.

Any contact details? Is it one with the square removable hitch? The odd swan neck euro style or just a flat tongue bolted on? How does it go with sensors?

That is a cheap way to get it done, think i will do the same if I can find one down in Vic.

There's a great thread in the yeti section of this forum, loads of pics (and similar process for Octy & yeti, I'd reckon). There is also a lot of other info re imports - also mentions that Jeff seems to have disappeared off the radar (personal issues). I bought mine online and he shipped it down. if it had come with the short (correct) harness and plug it would have been a total breeze doing the wiring bit (read the Yeti thread). My sensors aren't switching off but I never looked into that.

The towbar is the Euro style (EU therefore Aus approved) with removable neck, plug swivels out of sight - very tidy - I leave the neck on to prevent parking miscreants banging the bodywork! I assume Scout and Octy are the same Rr section - mine didn't need cutting at all.

Good luck getting Jeff (Iron Bull Towbars) to respond to any of your attempts to contact him. I emailed, phoned and texted with no reply at all. Ended up going with a Hayman Reese installed by Peddars at Alderley. Great job and great concelment of plug. Very minimal cutting for the towbar only and very neat job. $1350 installed with no error codes. I have reverse sensors and they don't beep with towbar only on....just when I'm towing.

About 2 mths after I got my towbar installed, Jeff (Iron Bull Towbars) returned my call!!!!

Be aware that the Euro ones come out beneath the rear bumper, hence no cutting required, but you'll get MAJOR bumps/scrapes with this going in and out of driveways if you're not VERY careful, particularly if installing on an RS (lower). I scrape my Hayman Reese and it would be a good 2 inches higher than the Euro one.

Euro one looks a bit phallic too, which is off-putting. I like the square removable hitch design. Looks the neatest.

I have a Hayman Reese on my 2010 occy vRS, was about $1100 supplied & fitted, when the trailer place quoted mine there was one for the wagon for about $800 from Cosmopolitan Towbars, [but this one only fitted the wagon]
