Cool thanks for the tips. How do you find the stahwille spaners? Some people love them others hate them. I loved them but my apprencite wage didn't stretch to buying them.

I love them. This is my 2nd set.

I got onto my first set when I asked my tool guy if there was something thin-wall so I could stop grinding doen my 1970s Sidchrome stuff. He showed me Stahwille & they were great. My full toolkit was stolen in 1987 & I replaced it with KingChrome & other various bits & pieces which was OK. This was all stolen again in 1995 and I was off the tools by then so I put together a much smaller tool kit & bought a new set of Stahwille double-ended offset rings in Austria while on holidays (some people buy beer steins as souveniers).

I love them because they are really versatile, can take a hammering, fit into restricted spaces & they look good. A lot of people don't like how thin the handles are but it's OK with me.

I was amazed by how much of a beating they can take without breaking. I loved the thin handles.

          Yep, great stuff.

I can also highly recommend Bahco sidecutters & Bahco shifting spanners.

I have a pair of side cutters that have lasted me many years of being in the trades. I will have a look at the brand tomorrow. They were very reasonably priced from memory. I did my second apprenticeship as an aircraft engineer so they were used many times a day every day.

              Snap!
I went into aircraft in '89. Did almost 2 years on the tools in mechanical components (VIGVs, high stage bleed valves, pnuematic rams for reverse thrusters, etc) & then almost 16 years organising/planning/designing/buying things. It's an interesting industry.

                Aha that's funny,

I cut my teeth on Diesel Mechanics with my first apprenticeship in '97 for a Volvo/Hino dealership then crossed over to Civil Aircraft working for WFL Aircraft Engineering who then merged with Brindabella Aircraft Engineering which went into liquidation just before Christmas. I worked there for 6 years running the shop when the boss was away. I completed my trade certificate doing my education up in Padstow but never really followed through with my logs. I had enough time for alot of licenses, Hydraulic, pneumatic, airframe up to 18 people, piston engine, Garret turbines, small helicopter (R22/R44) and I think even some basic avionics.
I then changed over to Structural engineering where I am now the office manager. A lot less stress and I don't have to go to work with a bag packed not knowing where I will be that night.

I didn't even bother with Basics. I was told in no uncertain terms very early in the piece that my chances of being sponsored for a licence were nill (QF Engineering - bit of an oldboys club for those that did their apprenticeships).

Not to worry, it was an interesting place for 17.5yrs & and glad I left when I did.
