  • Octavia RS Air Con query

I haven't had my Octavia RS very long, but I've noticed on hot days (> 30 degrees) the Climatronic isn't particularly effective - a fair bit of noise in the vicinity of the pollen filter (under glovebox) but not a lot of air coming out. I took it in for a service yesterday and was advised the flapper motor had been incorrectly setup at the factory for EU rather than Asia Pacific. They've rectified this, so just waiting on a hot day to see if it makes a difference.

I've also noticed no change in air flow or noise when I toggle the aircon recirculation button between On, Off and Auto. Shouldn't I notice a change in noise or airflow?

Not really, see how it goes now. It's not the most potent A/C about, but sounds like you had extra issues so see if there is an improvement now.

The AC is OK, but the climate control is not the best I have come across. Seems to be worse with Auto recirc for some reason? Anyway, I just swap between auto fan settings.

          very pleased with mine.
set to 22, auto + ac all year round.

takes about 3-5 mins to cool down the interior from stinkin hot.

Well it was warmish again today, so i was able to test the airon on the octavia post-service and flapper motor recalibration. I don't think it's made much of a difference unfortunately.

Hearing from others that they're happy with the aircon in their octavia gives me hope, so i might get them to have another look at it.

I do think it's strange that when toggling between auto, recirc on and recirc off, the only indication i see/hear is the green light going on and off.

Well my AC is crap I have to say. Maybe it's cause I'm in QLD but my climate control is woeful. Have to have it set on 18-19 most days just to keep the car cool. And if I turn it to re-circ it doesn't even keep the car cool. Very disappointed indeed compared to our tiggy who's climate control is brilliant and spot on.

My Sorento had the best a/c in the world (I reckon) and going from that to the Octy has me very disappointed... But going in for a new compressor on Tuesday because apparently the gas in the lines isn't flowing at all!

The Sorrento would have the same unit as my Santa Fe, I get frozen in that thing. Same with our Mazda 6 and pretty much most Japanese 4WDs or Falcons or Commodores, they all have potent A/C.

Euro cars not so much, we keep the Skoda around 21.5C and yes it does cool down in 3-5min, but lacks a lot of oomph...always has, but that is how they are.

Sounds like your fan isn't working....

Hello everyone, every time my air con is on, I can feel vibration from wheel and even from the central arm rest. Is this normal? It takes 10min to cool down

I had a pressure relief valve (down near the radiator) on mine leak the gas out, replaced it, new gas and it was ok (though it isn't the coolest AC in the world. Mind you I have an almost black car - which I will never do again.

Compressor replaced, A/C now so cold my hand (on steering wheel) starts to experience extreme pain. Bring it on, hot days! >

We had 4 days over 40 two weeks ago here in Melbourne - ugly. A couple of days hit 44! The unit in the Octy Scout was working hard but did the job - I reckon it's a treat (nothing could compare to the old '90 Camry unit, that was designed not to run at idle!!!).

I usually set it to 22 on Auto. When it's hot my other half just sets the fan speed with A/C on (no Auto). Never had to run it lower than 21. On the 44 deg day I had 49.5 deg!!!! reading on the MFD sitting in traffic in Hoddle Street (Melbourne) and the car was comfortably cool, but not cold.

Unfortunately I do have a new prob relating to the aircon-fan system: on any fan speed setting above 3 lights it now has a soft but far too audible fluttering noise.

It coincided almost perfectly with a displayed parking ticket (not the fine, the one you buy and display) disappearing down between the windscreen and the dash (guessing into a demister vent?), combined with the Melbourne heatwave when the fan went into max when first getting into the car. I'd seen the ticket but couldn't get it out by hand and thought I'd leave it till I had a thin implement to remove it (thinking it was only a visual irritation).

Everything still works as per but the noise is there and it seems there's no doubt the ticket has been dragged into the sys with the high air speed and is lodged somewhere within. If I'd had any idea it was an 'open' system down there I'd have extracted the mongrel ticket immediately!

Be warned! And my brothers GTI dash has swallowed his wife's diamond ring - she put it on the dash and it rolled into a vent when cornering!!

So I'll be posting to ask advice on the easiest way to extract the fluttering obscenity.Found a good info link on Briskoda but want to avoid pulling the glovebox and fan motor out. Maybe I can vacuum from the side with the panel removed.

Looks pretty straightforward in the Briskoda link - even has pics so clear as a bell. So, yes, I will pull out the glovebox & fan motor, and hope I can locate that bloody tik!
