Go the Michelins. We still have the Michelin pe2s with 60k on them and still heaps of life left. Wish they still made them.

Generally, the bigger the diameter and/or the lower the profile, the higher the retail price of a given model.Originally posted by daft1014 View PostTempe has the PS3 in 205/55/16 for $580...
It does my head in that the PS3 for the RS is $920...
I would always expect a 225/40 R18 tyre to have a higher price than a 205/55 R16 tyre, for a given model.

tempe tyres. Been buying off them for years.Originally posted by tlli View Post@brad where did you see them for $600?
That Jax price is just as good - go for it.
Slightly different tyre but i got 75,000k out of my michelin Primacy HP. I'd expect at least 45,000km out of the PS3 with better grip.Last edited by brad; 14-05-2014, 11:30 AM.carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic

Maybe for the 18s & to a lesser extent the 17s but in 205/55r16 the price works out quite similar once you account for bank fees, forex, freight, & fitting.Originally posted by Dzl_Dubba View PostHave a look at Tirerack. They ship here and you'll have them landed in Aus for half the price if bought locally.
The selection of Michelin in 205/55r16 is restricted to touring type tyres. The Conti ExtremeContact on offer is a bit sportier but not available in AUS so if you bin one you have to wait a week for another from TR.
TR used to be a no-brainer but now we've gone from 1.05 to .90 at retail rates you need to double check the sums.carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic

225/55r16. They fit a lowered vehicle without scrubbing & bring the speedo up to about 2kmh "wrong" (still on the safe side). I was responding to the conversation about 205/55r16s & thought it relevant.Originally posted by donweather View PostWhat size tyre were these as I can't find these for the RS - 225/40/R18 ?
They aren't a tyre I'd use on an RS - too touring orientated for such a low profile tyre. If you wanted a long wearing tyre in 225/40r18 then you'd have to look at one of the all-season types that have a TWR of 400-600. Seems a bit of a waste on an RS - like running ULP.
In some ways, if you want to run a cheaper / longer wearing tyre you'd be better off dropping back to 16s or 17s with an appropriate size touring orientated tyre. Both 16s & 17s will fit over the stock 312mm rotors on the RS. You'll pick up a good 2nd hand set with quality tyres for <$400. I've got my 16x7.5" rims up for sale with the Primacys - still have some life left. Last time I amended the ad it was way less than $200 for the set.carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic

I thought Tire rack stopped selling Michelins to Oz due to importers getting upset here. Either way I think the price has dropped enough that its probably cheaper to buy here now. I notice Costco do really good prices on PS3s here but not sure if they are any good as tyre fitters.

I'm seriously due to replace the OE Conti SC2 on my Octy in the next week or two. After almost 43000 km I'm not too disappointed with their lifespan.
I've pretty much decided to give the PS3 a shot based on comments here. Pricewise, they're pretty much the same as the Conti SC5 which was my other preference - $300 +/- $10 a corner from Jax and Bob Jane. I've not called Tempe as yet. Anyone know/think the price could be sharper for either choice in 225/40 R 18 size?MY 22 Superb Sportline Wagon. Moon White.

They did stop selling Michelin to AUS but then it depended what salesperson you were dealing with.Originally posted by woofy View PostI thought Tire rack stopped selling Michelins to Oz due to importers getting upset here. CostCo would at least have fairly new equipment so that's a plus.
