Manual gearbox issues?

I traded one of the first of the new shape Sorento's (2009) for my Octavia.

I do miss it sometimes, so tall with surprising offroad abilities.
I love my low sportswagon, but sometimes...

I spoke with a dealer two three months back. $10k was their opening offer. It needs a good polish and the front wheels have been scraped (one quite badly, of course not by this adult half od the family ) but, even so, that is just stupid low-ball.

And people think I'm being overly generous because I'm going to give my Octy to my daughter. Imagine the trade-in offer on a 2007 build 1.8tsi M6 Elegance with 125,000km on the dial. $8k-$9k?

A quick update on this - advised today that Skoda would be covering the full cost of the repair and the replacement clutch pack.

I'm just taking this at face value, and happy I don't have to pay. My wife's now saying the extra room of the Sorento wouldn't be too bad over the holidays, but my view is our roof bars won't fit.

Good to hear Skoda are fixing it under warranty - but this still sounds iffy to me. Items like clutches/brakes are not normally covered under warranty as they are wear and tear items.

Ok if your clutch died and you only had 5,000km on the car then you could argue it was a faulty clutch, but im surprised that they are doing a warranty job on a 40,000km old clutch.

I think that the claims like clutch and brakes are individually assessed. If his previous car was manual, he's using the clutch properly and the car doesn't show any signs of abuse, why wouldn't they honour the warranty?
A smart technician would go for the test drive with the customer, letting him drive and would know straight away from the observation if the clutch was used properly or not (assuming he's only the driver that uses the car).

I'm not saying it doesn't, but I'm happy enough to have the cost covered and for it to be "sorted"

FWIW, I've haven't had clutch issues in any of the other cars I've owned in the last 30 years, and this one is younger although higher annual mileage than most of the others.

Gaaaaah - went out for NYE, and gearbox failed to select reverse or 1-2 plane. NRMA got things going, but the guy commented that it seemed to be sometimes trying to select two gears at a time. This is now happening intermittently, so back to the dealer I go tomrrow....
