I've had two (spam) saying they can save me money and they think they can offer me insurance for as little as $1,465
I'm currently with AAMI paying below $700 per year (large $1,500 excess)

I pay $1,300 per year for mine from NRMA, but thats with a $600 excess (+$400 for under 25) and some of mum's discounts.

Without the discounts I'd be up for $3,500...
Coles car insurance wanted $5k. No thanks!

I pay $537 a year for the Golf with Suncorp with the standard $600 excess, hire car option, free windscreen option, choice of repairer, and full replacement with new for lifetime that I own the car if written off. Almost unbeatable I'd say. And they valued it at $24990 which is more than I paid for it.

It all depends on your postcode and other variables that are fed into the company's electrical calculating contraption.
Which is why it always pays to shop around, every year.

This is certainly true but there is something to be said about loyalty to an insurance company too. While I have been with AAMI i have often looked at other companies, but after more than 10 years I am considered a Diamond class customer and no other company can come in anywhere near them on price.

I currently get a free windscreen each year, free hire car and choice or repairer for under $650. It also helps that all our home and contents insruance is with them too.

When my wife bought her new Sorento in 2011, she had no claims or fines for over 5 years and Budget Direct wanted over $3000 a year. AAMI only asked $980 with the same benefits as me.

We shop around every year to make sure, but sticking everything with NRMA and paying upfront has saved us plenty of coin when you compare it to going to best price for other insurers. Not sure why, but they seem to consistently give me a very good price for everything. Maybe there's a big green tick on my account with them

Suncorp came up with the goods for me. Just over $600pa with standard $600 excess, free hirecar for as long as I need it (up to $75 a day, my choice) windscreen replacement and a value of $34,500!

While I found BudgetDirect's pricing amusing,
the main thing that I was miffed about was that Skoda had forward my details to BudgetDirect

Did they or is the RTA making some money on the side? You never know who is making a buck from your info. I had Coles insurance after me last week.

Did you take the lifetime replacement with new if written off? It only added around $25 to my premium with Suncorp so I felt it was worth it. Can surely find a rotten big gum tree to park it under when it gets old.....

Mines a MY11 so was too old for that option, still a 35k payout would get me into a MY13 demonstrator!

I'm totally baffled by this insurance biz. All with AAMI, I have had house & contents for 11 years and 3rd party property on the 2 previous cars for over 20 years with maybe two small claims dating back 15 years - on rating 1 for life for as long as I can remember. Paying $1150 per annum for the 2010 Octavia Scout, garaged in Preston, vic. My brother pays about $800 with AAMI for his new GTI with the same company, garaged in F'field 6km away!

My sister in Warburton pays about $750 for her Mazda 3 2.0L diesel. I don't get it. When I asked them for justification I was given a spiel about 'very powerful car' (103kw!) and 'VW - very expensive to fix' (so why the cheap deal on the GTI???!!).

I reckon there's a lot of BS in it. reading these prices I'm tempted to go elsewhere for the car.
