Tried costco? I've seen them with specials on PS3s pretty much all the time but haven't checked sizes, the 225 is more pricey due to it being not as common.

I've got P-Zero Nero's on my RS. Good middle of the road tyre grippy in the dry and wet. Only downside is they were noisy at new, though they seem better now (or I'm more used to them). I've got 35k out of them and I reckon they've got another 15-20k or so in them (which I'm very happy with). I think I paid about $230 a corner fitted, balanced etc.

When Tempe quote $230 on their website fitted, why would I go to Bob Jane who quoted via email $360? They haven't even had a chance to be competitive. If they quoted say $280, then I'd consider the fact they are closer to me and try to bargain. At 60% more they just seem like a ripoff. I guess if they quote that and people pay then they're winning....

Anyway I'll try my luck walking in and testing their price match I've nothing to lose. Just have a drive over to Tempe.
I got a piece of steel in one of my conti contact sport 2's after 1600km. annoyed++++++++ but qutoted $235 at Jax and $240 at bob Jane both fitted and balanced. went . bob Jane as needed the tyre and had to wait two days at jax. was for a 225/40 18. I will never go back to bjtmarts after I found cigarette ash in my car afterwards. my car had 1600km on the clock and no one I know smokes.

so you should have no probs getting 225 contis for under $240 a corner.

I'm at 118,000km and on my 4th set on the front.

                  Dunlop's lasted 16,000km
Sava's lasted until 65,000 when I got new rims (they still have tread)
Rapid's lasted until 92,000 (never again - came with rims)
Hankook's are going great - still plenty left.

Would go Sava in a heartbeat but they stopped importing them

I live in the country 20km from Bathurst along a nice hilly road Not sure why the Nero's are holding up so well. But I think I got close to 35k out of the OEM conti's and was super excited about that!

                        Edit: I should also say I haven't bothered with a wheel alignment/balance.

workmate got, no joke here, 127,000km off the set of hankooks that came on his golf 6 from the factory - pretty much exclusively freeway commuting. He wasnt even down to the wires

Dirt roads are hard on tyres, that might be more what DunlopRS is talking about.

You'd be surprised what's fitted to low spec Golfs etc.

Hankook have been an OE supplier of tyres to Volkswagen for quite some time now, which include the Golf Mk5, Mk6 & Mk7 (predominately in 195/65 R15 and 205/55 R16 fitments).

Getting an OE supplier contract from a major vehicle manufacturer is no mean feat, so I wouldn't be particularly miffed if I had Hankook tyres supplied as factory fitment.

Given the number of OE suppliers they already have (Bridgestone, Continental, Dunlop, Goodyear, Michelin, Pirelli), I wouldn't expect VW to keep renewing Hankook's contact if their tyres were inferior - or at least, the ones they supply to VW factories.

Though if this forum (and others) are anything to go by, it's not as if the other OE suppliers always make good tyres... common complaints include high noise, poor treadwear or not enough grip - sometimes all at once!
