I thought the RS had the 6 speed wet DSG and that it doesn't have problems?

It does have the wet DSG6, but the general public aren't going to distinguish between the wet DSG6 (DQ250) and the dry DSG7 (DQ200) which had/has the issues/recalls.
The average buyer will just see the word "DSG" and look away, regardless of the technicalities.
Sad but true.

Yep I prefer the manual anyday, not really a fan of the DSG idiosyncracies especially reverse parking uphill, much prefer the control of a clutch. I have no issue with my auto gearbox in my Santa Fe.

I love my manual and will never go back! Considered moving to a Santa Fe Trail with the R2.2 and manual, but figured if I was going to change cars (Sorento R2.2 auto) then might as well go the whole hog and went Octy vRS TDI...
Unlike you, I hated the auto mode with that auto. Only ever used the tiptronic
2012 Octavia vRS TDI. Darkside big turbo, 3bar tune, other stuff. 200kW/650Nm.

Not including hers...
The tiptronic seems to kill some parts over time, I've barely used it. They did a recall and I had two things done for it at my service in Jan and now the gearbox is grunting and heaving and causing a wicked vibration that is peeving me. They replaced a bracket on it under the recall so guessing that is the culprit but it was an easy and quiet car for a diesel to drive before they did that.
Well I moved from 30 years of manuals to a DSG and so far pretty happy.
Incidentally we have a steep driveway that we reverse up several times a day with no problems. Sounds like they've done a lot of work on the DSG.
If you go back in the evolution of transmission I think you'll find that every variety has had it's problems. My supposedly 'bullet proof' Prado transmission has a tendency to overheat which is solved with a tranny cooler. My mate with the manual version has blown out a rear seal.
I've had no issue with the 7 speeder DQ500 on my 155TSI Tiguan or the seemingly flaky DQ200 on my wife's 77TSI. I suspect the lack of tune and the low power on the 77TSI helps the reliability of the DQ200.
To be honest, I am so used to DSG these days I never encounter any surprises. Had a DSG on my in law's Mk V GTI and later on my Nissan GTR. The GTR was a first gen model so there were a few software updates on the transmission that eventually fixed the 1st to 2nd gear hesitation. The Tiguan and the Mk7 Golf have been very uneventful so far.
I think it helps to think of them as computer controlled manuals rather than a slush matic.
But if you want involvement in driving, nothing beats a stick shift. I'd love to have an old 987 Boxster/Cayman S with a regular 6 speeder.
Can't say I think much of the Skoda ad on SBS... Surely, as a middle aged white collar with a young family, I'm squarely in their sights.... But the ad does nothing for me. I wouldn't have even noticed if it wasn't for the simply clever at the end... Not sure about simply clever on this one, maybe time to change their advertising agency and get some more bang for their bucks?
Mate in SA who is keen got an email from Skoda Dealer.
my comments in brackets
March 2014 release
No idea of pricing
Interest has been very high
Demos arriving in dealership soon
Limited numbers of initial stock from Skoda AU due to high demand world-wide.
Further stock limited AU wide
Further stock only on customer order (ie: no float of vehicles for walk-in customers that are happy to take what's available)
5 months wait for factory orders
Skoda will be marketing heavily (WTF? Why market heavily if you can't get stock?)
carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums

LOL. Was watching without my glasses on. The bit where the hand goes out the window & the guy jumps off the rock - I thought they were flinging underwear out the window.
