New Octavia ....when? How Much?

The release of the new Octavia isn't really setting Skoda sales figures on fire.

December 2011: 653 sales
December 2012: 116 sales

September 2013: 281 sales
October 2013: 311 sales
November 2013: 332 sales
December 2013: 241 sales

January 2014: 220 sales.

Outsold by Alfa Romeo. Ouch!
Nearly outsold by Opel. Double ouch!

Yeah not so much stock about, I think with the Rapid coming and the other updates this year things will change very quickly. Doesn't help if there are less dealers than before, we need another in the SE Melb that's for sure.

I think I read that they are only selling floor stock of the Superb & aren't taking orders? Also most Yetis for sale are 2012 build. Neither could be helping sales.

Remembering how old the Roomsters were when they sold the last (3 years) & if there is old Yeti & Superb stock it explains their desire to only bring in orders.

Remember both the Yeti and the Superb have new models coming so they wouldn't be wanting to bring much more outgoing models in when everyone will want the new ones.

I think their future all lies in the success of the new Octavia, if that fails so does Skoda Oz. Have you seen the prices of run out Yeti s at the moment, it would make you cry if you had paid full price for one ? Mazda were still getting $20 k for run out 3s. They re just suffering from being an unknown product and VW Oz don't care, its competition and extra complication for them.

Have a look at used RS prices compared to similar Golf GTI or 147kw Jetta. There's some bargain RS out there

I haven't really seen any cheap RS out there. People keep talking about them but anyone I know who sold one got a lot more than I did with a very low mms immaculate 6 so often wonder if it's an urban legend. I have a friend who keeps complaining that he can't find any cheap used ones.

2008 RS hatch start at $11500 with 160k km on carsales.com; closest 2008 Golf GTI has 230k km & is $14k. 2009 Jetta 147tsi is $13k with 130k km

Cheapest FL model is a 2010Octavia RS for $15700 with 125k km. Cheapest 2010 GTI (Mk6) is $21250 with 86k km. 2011 Jetta 147TSI Highline is $26k

I left out an important bit, cheap ones with low kms. Those are all in the category of too high milage apart from the 2010 ones. The Jettas will all be DSG as well as will most GTis so in the older pre FL that will come into play. Arguably if you were smart you would be avoiding older ones with DSG but I guess that model gearbox was the one with the lower amount of issues. Will be interesting to see how people extending the warranty will work on resale values as most 3yr old + Skodas will all have no warranty as it basically wasn't offered at one stage whereas the VWs had the option.

Our late 2008 has 52k on the clock and is in perfect shape will be holding onto it until the end of next year to get the most out of it.

When I made my comment I wasn't throwing in a handfull of ifs & buts & provisoes. The fact is that year for year an RS with similar mileage is significantly cheaper than a GTI. $11500 is fantastic value for what you get.

My 1.8tsi has done 128,000km & unless there is some magic switch that gets thrown that suddenly turns it into a piece of crap, I can't see any major issues happening when it gets to 160k (18 months away) or even when it gets to 200k.

I'd suggest when your mate finds the cheap low mileage Octy RS that he asks to look in the peoples back yard as there's probably a leprechaun & pot of gold there as well

The RS's are holding their value fairly well IMO, looking at a similar spec to mine (2010 wagon), low to mid 20s for medium Kms (list price, anyway). There might be some discrepancies as to what people will let them go for, especially given there were large discounts flying around. In my case, if I could sell for that it'd have retained around 55% after 4 years. Not too bad.

He will probably end up waiting and getting ours, but we haven't found the pot of gold yet...I think the issue he has had is that they are rare as hens teeth in general, even people trying to buy them new struggle at times. The Czech gremlins apparently wake up from hibernation when you change the timing belt/chain.

What people want and actually sell for is going to be different...

I cant complain though, coz I got mine for pretty good price...
2010 wagon with leather and sunroof in excellent condition with 30,000kms for $23,500... Similar spec cars out there were close to $30k..

If after 4 years I can sell it for around $12k-$13k then I will be very happy...
