Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I took it to the dealer for the check, and didnt find anything.
When I purchased it, I was told that the 60k service was completed. So just put a question to the Service consultant, if he can confirm it was actually done. Doesnt look like it was and they provided me with a superb as the courtesy car, my RS is being serviced. This included the DSG Service. Picking it up this evening.
I am hoping I wont be charged for it, as it was part of the pre-delivery check and was missed!My11 - Octavia vRS 125TDI DSG Liftback, Anthracite Grey metallic

All good, no charge, free service and DSG serviced too. The Service consultant and the Sales Manager both apologised on behalf of the sales consultant who sold the car, a big email waiting on his desk when he returns.
The sales guy had also promised me a set of new mats, but two days later when I called for it, said "oh, you will have to live with the old ones". This is also now being followed up by the Sales Manager and should see an outcome soon.
I was treated better than a certain Audi centre where I was spending atleast over 1K each visit on the Q7.My11 - Octavia vRS 125TDI DSG Liftback, Anthracite Grey metallic

I'm also not saying that it is the problem but it is a possible cause and you should at least ask the dealership for clarification. Diesels are particularly prone to DMF failure because of the low down torque and if the car has been driven at all hard from standing starts the torque can contribute to ripping the two halves of the flywheel apart and then you get the thump as one half bangs against the retaining bolts as you start the car or start from stationery.

Thank you Kiwi, a lot to learn about these cars.
If it is the DMF, should it happen everytime I start from stationary? In my case, it is may be once a day.
That is the reason we could not reproduce it at the dealers test run and hence 'No fault found". Atleast now I have it in their records that I did report of an issue, in case it gets worse or breaks down (hope not).Last edited by RS125TDI; 18-10-2013, 01:49 PM.My11 - Octavia vRS 125TDI DSG Liftback, Anthracite Grey metallic

I understand (no first hand experience) that a DMF issue noise is loudest when the car is cold with higher friction in a cold engine and gearbox it puts more stress in the damping material between the two halves of the flywheel and is more prone to making the thump noise.
As I said just make sure that next time you contact the dealership you ask or better still send the service manager an email asking if your car has a DMF and asking him to confirm that they have discounted that as a possible cause of your issue if it does.
An electronic paper trail can be very handy later on.

I saw this the other day, but didn't weigh in as I don't know the definitive answer. That said, I agree with KIWI in that I'd be surprised if your car didn't have a DMF. I thought they were on all Series II Skodas. But as I said, don't hold me to that. There is a record of Sachs DMF failures some years ago. Car manufacturers don't advertise things like that. I forget what VW call it now, but in the dark ages a "Service Bulletin" would be released to dealers after there was a repetative problem identified over time through the service network, and it would all be handled quietly, often to the expense of the owner. The fact that VW had to be dragged kicking and screaming to put out the 7DSG recall is case in point.
I don't know if there is a current DMF issue flagged. If so, it'll be in ERWIN, but I don't have access to it. Ask your dealer. They'd be mad to deny it if there was one. If they say they don't know, or aren't aware of one, not good enough. You've asked a fair question, and if they don't know then it's up to them to go to VWA, and get back to you with the answer.
And do it via email. KIWI is spot on with regard to documenting all your communications with the dealer service department. If push comes to shove it's invaluable to have who said what and when documented so there can be no doubt about it whatsoever.Last edited by BottomScratcher; 22-10-2013, 06:29 AM.

Funny both K1W1 and BottomScratcher should say that everything has to be in writing, because when I got this car and the sales person agreed on a value and then came back to me asking for $200 more. I asked for something in return if he wants me to pay up more money.
I was promised Map updated and "floor mat". I picked up the car, not realising it still had the old mats. Two day later during the "courtesy call", I asked about the mats, and the answer was "You will have to live with it". When I went in for DSG check, spoke to his manager, who said he will follow up and apologised for the answer.
No I got the call from the same sales person, who said, I did not promise else it would have been on the contact, he said he only mentioned "I would if I could", conveniently forgetting that he had put this down in an email.
I forwarded him the email as proof, now the story changes to "Since your car has the mats already , we dont provide it".
Well, there was another "courtesy call" about the service and I did ask this service consultant if the DMF checked and he was positive it was. I have not received the invoice yes, which I believe is being posted. Will have to wait and see what has been done on this service and followup again...My11 - Octavia vRS 125TDI DSG Liftback, Anthracite Grey metallic

Just an update - It ha been well over a week now, no jolt at slow / rolling speed after the 60K service including DSG service. That problem seems to fixed.
Now, I hear a clunk each time I turn left at low speeds, I will have to call and pay a visit to the dealer again I guess.My11 - Octavia vRS 125TDI DSG Liftback, Anthracite Grey metallic

Hey guys,
Tried searching but couldnt find anything. Just wondering if there has been an update to the DSG software - I have the 6speed DSG in a 2010 (June) VRS Petrol...
I find that my DSG is schitzofrenic...
One moment it is nice to drive, doesnt upshift to early and holds the gear a bit longer etc, and doesnt shudder too much when coming to a stop or taking the foot off the brake and engaging the clutch...
The next minute it shifts way too early and shudders more...
I know I can get a DSG software upgrade from tuners but they are fairly pricey so will have to way it up..
