1Z Octavia chassis compared to MK6 Golf

Anyone know how similar they are?

Many of the suspension bits are the same.

I'm looking at bracing and other things like that, just seeing if anyone knows if the dimensions and tie points of the chassis and subframes are the same?

Has anyone here fitted MK5/6 Golf stuff to your 1Z Octavia?

i've fitted the mk6 gti rear swaybar on mine.
my exhaust is for a mk5 jetta.

ahhh swaybars are the same too. that's a good sign for me!

im thinking of some bracing from the US or maybe get some while im in the UK. hmm need to make a shopping list

also that's interesting about the jetta exhaust, is it a complete exhaust? and I assume it's off the 2.0T?

none.

yup, complete exhaust - downpipe + catback. all the mounting points & bends r exactly the same as a mk5 jetta.

mine was sourced from the states, and based of a mk5 jetta gli.
i'm note sure of the jetta 147tsi sold here in aus. it might b different, otherwise APR would've sourced one from here, which is made for the 2.0T.
the jetta gli is not sold here in oz, however it too has the 2.0T

I think I might take a risk with some brace bars. not sure how much difference a strut brace will be for the front, they are pretty solid to begin with.....

A strut brace will make a noticeable improvement on a track but around Sydney roads it will make the front too stiff and start causing other things to flex and break that normally wouldn't over time.

yup, and this isn't my first modified car I prefer the predictability over 'squashy' factory suspension. but I appreciate the warning!

I work down the road from a container terminal so the roads around there are rubbish.

I just got back from the hunter valley. stock suspension on 19" rims. horrible!

at least they are upgrading the roads..... slowly.

anyway, with some well setup spring/shock combo or coilovers, it should be fine around town.

The Octavia shocks were not the greatest to start with, the extra weight of the 19" wheels may have gone past the suspension envelope

I went to the Hunter Valley earlier this year, that was the only time I was praising my stock 15s

that's true!

im still deciding on coilovers or a matched spring/shock. I wont bother with lowering on standard shocks

cbay: last time I was there I had my stagea, the only moving parts in the suspension were the springs and shocks. pretty sure I rattled a few bolts loose hahah
