  • Hello from the UK

    Hi everyone,

My name is Carl and i am from the UK. I have joined this forum to gain information and hopefully, where possible, help others out.

I have a working knowledge of VAG cars in general and i have a very very good working knowledge of the Skoda Octavia (predominantly why i joined).

I have seen a few threads from here and believe i may be able to assist people.

I am currently on my second vRS Octavia. Both i bought new. The first one i tuned and modified quite extensively and the second i have done similar although the modifications are more cosmetic/functional on this one and not as much tuning wise....for now

With regards to help i have done a fair few picture tutorials for things like, amongst others:

Cylinder head cover change on 2.0TFSi
    Cam Follower Change on 2.0TFSi
    Catch Can fitment on 2.0TFSi
Relocating DV for K04 conversion on 2.0TFSi
Fitting uprated Turbo Discharge and Hi-Flow intercooler piping on 2.0 TSi
Changing interior light for one with Cat Vision down lighting
Doing an engine flush on 2.0TFSi (will be the same for most VAG engines)

I also have a very good knowledge of stripping of interior panels for access to do soundproofing/deadening and retrofitting OEM equipment

I have VCDS, ETKA and Elsawin so will be able to help with part no's and also schematics for all VAG cars including current models. I also have a good knowledge of the RNS 510 including upgrading of firmware and mapping and replacing can-gateways for cars that suffer battery drain.

I am certainly not an expert though in anyway shape or form. I am a British Infantry soldier by profession and just have a keen passion for cars. I am also a keen amateur car detailer and have done a fair few cars so will be happy to help out with any advice in that area which i have gotten through experience and having friends that are professional detailers.

Sorry for the long winded post. Just trying to pre-empt a few questions that i may take a while to answer due to time differences.

I am always happy to help and if i'm not online send me a quick PM and i'll get back to you as soon as i can.

    Carl

Welcome, I'm sure your experience would be invaluable to some of the more adventurous modders amongst us.

Did some time in the infantry way back when as well. Good times.

Can you tell me how to install the AWD from a Scout in my RS, so I don't spend half my time going no where in the wet.

Now that would be nice - is the Scout's haldex up to the torque or is another model needed.....

im guessing you would need a doner car to start with.

                    also, try new tyres

and welcome to our UK brethren!

Unless your first name happens to be Sheikh then transferring the AWD from a Scout to a vRS would be astronomically expensive as you would need pretty much a whole car to swap bits from.

What you can do though is buy a 1.8TSi Scout, add a K04 Turbo from an Audi S3, Golf ED30/Pirelli/R, Seat Leon Cupra and a few other bits like a 3" downpipe etc.

Roberts your mother's brother and hey presto you have an AWD Scout with circa 320bhp and 350lb/ft

I've seen this done and although it was good fun the power was still a litlle much for the Haldex. You can get uprated haldex controllers though.

I've seen one 4WD conversion on a MK2 Octavia. I think the guy was from russia and it cost about £10K GBP so whatever that works out at Aus$

On my last car i had Anti lift kit, FSD Suspension and use GY Eagle F1 Assymmetric 2 tyres and that gave better grip in the wet. Just needed to learn to feed the power in and i could get a fairly quick launch in the wet and use a lot of the power wheneever i wanted.

I think we only get the 103TDI here in AUS.

With the right mods, you can take a 103 TDI to 320hp and 550Nm

                          lets see:

Swap in S3 intercooler.... $1200 ish?
                          3" exhaust - $.....
                          Custom ECU remapping - $1500?
                          Garrett GT2260VK - $2200
                          Big clutch - $1000
IC piping and 4 bar map sensor - $ ?
