a quick FYI for those interested in replacing their headlight switch with a chrome version like this one.

their specific for the VWs. since skoda is part of the vag family, i bought one of a forum member, with the aim to replace mine. it looked exactly the same and figured it would b plug'n'play.
BUT they're NOT!!
1st problem was the switch panel cover (the one with the writing). the cover for skodas is not a perfect round like that on the vw. so the vw switch won't slot in and fit properly, as is.
so i had to take the cover off my skoda switch, and put it on the vw switch.
sweet - it fits.......but the locking pins don't click in place. so the switch panel can still be pulled out, say when pulling it to switch the foglights on. couldn't see anything obvious, so i thought i'd get to it later.
2nd problem - the lighting was the vw red, not the skoda green! i didn't like that cause it didn't match the rest of the interior illumination.

using a torx screw, i removed the back panel and swapped the PCB from the skoda switch to the vw switch. it simply slides out - just pull. no screws or clips. the LEDs r soldered onto the PCB.
for some reason, the back cover would now not close flush. atleast now i had the skoda green lighting back.
the locking pins still didn't click in place. hmmm.
2 weeks later i decided to solve the locking pins mystery. both the switch module were exactly the same in dimensions. both locking pins were in exactly the right spot.
after lots of head scratching, i spotted the issue with the contact switch plastic thingy. the skoda version has a notch, that slots into switch body. unfortunately the vw switch body does not cater for the notch. so i had to swap the contact switch plastic thingy. it has two plastic clips holding it down to the PCB, allowing it to b easily unclipped.
hooray......everything sat & closed flush, with the locking pins now finally locking in place.
ah the relief.
