  • Warranty after reflashing.......

    Has any one actually reflashed with the bluefin and had a warranty claim I'm very interested in hearing any story's went to richmond skoda/audi and they were like any modification at all voids warranty and is very easy to prove

    ive had no problems, and I have a Bluefin stage 1.

      The dealer (or Skoda Australia in this case) has to reasonably believe that any modifications you did led to the failure to deny a warranty claim. "Reasonable Believe" and "Prove" have been used interchangeably by people but the reality of the situation is they hold all the cards and can simply say no and leave it for you to fight (all the while with your car off the road).

      After a tune if your radio goes, or power windows or ... well pretty much anything outside the drive line it would be very hard to claim it was related to the tune and warranty should be covered without question.

      But, if your turbo blows up or you drop a cylinder... well as I said, that could be more problematic. You can always argue that 'part x' should have no additional load and shouldn't have failed at 5,000km anyway... but then if your car is off the road it might be more of a problem.

      That said I have heard plenty of stories of people having DSG boxes, turbo's and all sorts of parts covered under warranty but that comes down to if the service agent notices the tune, checks for the tune or cares about the tune (on the assumption that the diagnostic computer doesn't simply flag it for them at the very start). If there was a *known* fault with that particular part they may change it without question.

      You have two choices, either tell them upfront you have a tune and see what they say, or the plan most people go with, say nothing and hope for the best.

      If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

          As per the Extended Warranty thread, I've had a Bluefin tune on my Octavia RS TDi DSG for approx 2 1/2 years. To date I have had no issues with the car or the tune.

          Each time I get the car serviced I flash the standard tune on and the Bluefin back once the dealer is done.

          I've been told by an independent tuning specialist if the standard tune is on the car when its serviced they cannot detect the Bluefin was on it. But he said the dealer can see the no of times a flash has been written to the ECU - only found out about this a few weeks back. Flashing the standard tune on is once and then the Bluefin after a service is twice. So with my car I've flashed probably 12 - 15 tunes onto the ECU over the 2 1/2 years.........

          The dealer hasn't mentioned anything to date about the no of tunes on the ECU.

          I also carry the Bluefin device in the car (in the under passenger seat compartment) just in case something goes wrong and I need to flash the standard tune back on - takes approx 3 minutes. Another thing, I take the Bluefin device out of the car when I get it serviced.

          All a risk really.........

                At the time there were no real Bluefin/Superchips dealers in AUS so I got my Bluefin device from Peter James in NZ the Superchips AUS/NZ Distributor.

                My boss has a Bluefin tune on his Golf R and he found the cheapest Bluefin distributor on eBay to get his Bluefin device. Once you get the device all the downloads/tunes come from the Superchips/Bluefin head office in the UK anyhow so you get the same tune regardless of where you buy it from. The local distributors/dealers are good for questions and the peronsalised service.

                  Richmond Skoda. Bought the car from them and always serviced it there.

                  Like I said they have never mentioned anything about the no of flashes on the ECU or another tune on the car. But I've never had a warranty claim on the drivetrain - have on other parts of the car and all have been successful (interior trim claims, replacement headlights, etc)

                    search for superchips or bluefin + tuning. Tigersoft might be your local.

                    There are other "self-tuners" (handhelds) out there such as BSR & Viezu & other alternatives as well.

                    Happy Bluefin user for 60,000km but would probably look at a less generic alternative next time.

                      I had a jetta with an APR tune. Had the tune done at about 12 months old. Had the DSG replaced under warranty without question before 3 years old. No mention of the tune was made. I didn't even set it back to factory before taking it to them.

                        Gee I hope their servicing and diagnostics is better than their ability to find an APR tune under a warranty claim.

                          i'm more worried they (vw) flash our cars with the "wrong ecu flash"!!
                          i had to convince the vw head techo that my rs (facelift version) has the same engine tsi as the mk6 gti, and not the tfsi of the mk5 gti.
                          they're both different engines, requiring different software mappings.

                            That doesn't surprise me, before I got the skoda I had a evo 10 had some problems and the techo's told me it was my ecu that had failed yet my car still started and rain it just didn't idle properly and would stall randomly turned out was loose belts and new ecu and a few timing belts later all fixed.

                              Just had a VW sales type tell me the exact same thing regarding my Tig's EA888 engine & the GTI'a EA888 engine...
