  • Has anybody bought extended warranty for VRS ?

    Hi All

I have a '10 Skoda VRS wagon with DSG. Currently it has a low 25,000 kms so I plan on keeping this car as the family car for a while. My question is, has anybody bought the 2 year extended factory warranty as offered by Å KODA Manufacturer Warranty - Simply Clever - Å KODA Australia ?

If so how much have you paid and which dealership was that with ?

I previously bought one with my GTI and my air con failed right after the purchase which was handy.

Happy to hear any experiences you have had.

There are a few threads around about extended warranties and the information varies A LOT! Some dealers will sell you Allianz Warranty Protection (= insurance) rather than the Skoda extended warranty - again, many opinions on whether that is any good or not.

My warranty expires in June, so I'm interested in this subject but undecided at this stage.

The dealership offered me an extended warrenty for $1200
As I planned to flash the ECU I declined - pointless
They then turned around said "how about $900"?
Shows you the margin they have to play with

The VW dealers in the warranty thread are happy to sell an extended Skoda Warranty.

I didn't bother as I would have run out of mileage too soon & I had a reflash for the previous 50,000km

I took up the Skoda extended warranty approx 1 year ago - extended it for 2 years.

It is underwritten by Allianz but it is the full Skoda warranty and covers all components of the car excluding interior trim. I get extended warranty coverage at any Skoda service centre in AUS - something you need to watch for with extended warranties as some are only limited to the selling dealer. I also don't need to get the car serviced at a Skoda service centre to make a claim as long as the service book has been stamped - just like the 3 year new car warranty. The paperwork for the warranty has Skoda all over it and on Skoda letterhead.

However a few days before my last service (75k), the centre armrest adjustable height mechanism broke. The dealer quoted $900 to supply a new one and fit it. I told the dealer (Richmond Skoda) I have extended warranty and he said he'll submit the claim. He didn't like my chances as he's submitted similar interior trim claims for Audi's and they all have been knocked back. The next day the dealer rang and the extended warranty (ie Allianz) said they would cover it. In the end the part and install was $720 - ridiculous I know but if they cover it so be it! Maybe cause I've always serviced the car at Richmond Skoda they paid it?

Cost wise it was $1,495 for the 2 years and Richmond Skoda sold it to me. I've managed to get approx half back already - not that I would have paid $720 to supply and install the new armrest if they didn't cover it.

Another benefit is I get 2 years roadside assistance included with the extended warranty too.

Oh, I've had a Bluefin tune on the car for the last 2 1/2 years. Each time I go to the dealer for a service I flash the standard tune on and Bluefin back afterwards. No issues thus far - fingers crossed!

My 3 year warranty expires soon so I did some ringing around today. I called all 5 of the VIC metro Skoda dealers to find out prices / conditions etc for buying extended warranty (looking at 2 years Factory Extended Warranty, NOT a different product they might get commission on).

3 of them "will call back" ASAP, but I haven't heard anything in the few hours since I started making calls.
I left voicemail messages for the relevant people at the other 2 dealers.

Hopefully something useful comes of this in the next few (business) days.

              Quick update:

NO dealer returned my call within 2 business days. Who says customer service is dead?

I called Skoda and was told that, as of about 3 months ago, they no longer offer a Factory Extended Warranty. Probably explains why nobody called me back, but you'd think they might be interested in making some money selling some kind of aftermarket warranty.

Have you read the extended warranty thread? You can get an extended warranty for your Skoda from VW dealers.

I haven't had a look in the thread in a long time but there were a few that were working on low profit / high turnover. Don't restrict yourself to the state you live in.

Yes, I've checked out quite a few threads.

I was after the official Skoda extended warranty, which (when I bought my car) only Skoda dealers were able to sell according to Skoda AUS.

Now that this product isn't available, I will have to get some info on the aftermarket options (Allianz, Swann) or not bother at all. The wholesaler who sold me my car had a brochure for the Allianz one (lets call it "warranty insurance" rather than warranty), so lots of dealers or even insurance brokers can sell that.

The VW extended factory warranty was the same product as the Skoda extended factory warranty & VW dealers were happy to sell the VW product with the appropriate Skoda details written in where it counts.

I can't speak for the current VW product as I haven't read the PDS, but when I was looking into the Audi factory plus or whatever they called it, I found that it was EXACTLY the same as the Alliance product from my lease company. The PDS were the same apart from layout and logos etc.

The Alliance product appears to be very good from what I read of the PDS, maybe someone who has actually made a claim on one could provide some further insight?

Ah, that makes sense - the finance people at some Skoda dealers (the ones that are also VW dealers) say they can sell me this Allianz "factory" warranty extension. The price seems to be $2950 for 2 years before discount, but so far I've been quoted as low as $1900 "with discount".
