APR Intercooler(less whistle from the Scud)

So I have the APR Intercooler installed now

So far I have only noticed 3 subtle differences:

• Intake temperatures are at times 5~8 degrees lower than expected
• When moving away from the lights the intake temperature goes down more and in a shorter time frame
• It appears that I have lost a lot of the intake whistle, it only happens briefly now at low revs/boost, once she is spooled up the whistle stops

For those of you not familiar with the "whistling scud missle", if you turn the volume up on this YouTube clip you can hear my car whistling from the hairpin right up to the braking point ( ignore the rex growling in the background )

good to hear the whistle is now almost non-existent

how long did the install take, and was it straight forward?

Good question...

I got BWAauto to install it for me
While it's fairly straight forward, you have to take the nose off the car to install it - takes around 4 to 4.5 hours

You may need to re-gas the air con
The radiators are air con, intercooler, water

The Apr intercooler comes with larger input/output pipes

I also had the oil changed post the Marulan race day
Having upgraded to stage 2 I decided to change the oil every 10k (rather than every 15k)
(Using that German liquid molly oil)

I must say that i've never heard a high pitched whine like that on another 2.0TSI before...hopefully it was a boost leak and it's now gone.

So the new larger intercooler is fitted, restriction/leak is no longer there, sound gone....

I fitted my aftermarket intercooler myself and i can tell you its not a job for the feint hearted. As mentioned, the entire front of the car has to come off - bumper, headlights, crash beam etc. It's a fair job.

Yes, I've never heard that whistle on any other turbo - it sounds a bit like a long computer beep

Hats off to you for installing the APR intercooler - it's certainly a lenthy installation
If I hat the time (and patience) I would have loved to do it myself - I would have learnt more about my car

It wasnt an APR intercooler i installed, but its the same process and same outcome.

Luckily, i don't normally drive the car during the week so i had the time to do the intercooler install over 2 evenings. Was definitely a good learning experience, but not much fun on your own....would have been really helpful to have another pair of hands at certain times.

Probably took me around 6hrs all up, but i was in no rush and was checking things out / cleaning stuff at the same time.
