Regardless of damage to a vehicle apparently so insurance company getting details shouldnt be a problem provided they arent stolen.
It is in Vic too, she was charged after I got the details for them (police called me to let me know).. But the police won't give over the details unless they can talk to the person and confirm your story (to some extent), I suppose it stops anyone just taking some plates in and getting the name and address..

So the police had gone to her house, the car wasn't there and the people there denied any such car at that address, the police have better things to do than try and find them for you... They do put some kind of block on the car though so if a police officer ran the plates for another reason it would state they are wanted regarding leaving the scene of an accident, but that could take years...

Lucky for me and unlucky for her I found her myself..

Re: Insurance - Who insured with who?

I've been with AAMI for 4 years and on rating 1. I'm 24yo in a few weeks. Had one write off with them for hail damage on a vr Commodore. The payout was great, especially a month before going overseas! .

Anyhow I was a bit pissed off when they wanted an extra $10-20 a month if I got a bluefin tune. I even stressed to them that its more of a fuel saver haha. But they said "well, does it increase performance???" And yeah....

I ended up getting the tune, but still cbf adding it to the policy, which is slightly worrying. Is this substantial price increase normal?

depends on the insurer. Some charge you per mod, others have a slightly higher initial price that allows "x" number of mods.

I'd assume that AAMI probably aren't mod / young person friendly as they have JustCars for that type of thing.

When i had my modded Liberty i went to Shannons becaause they allowed unlimited mods. They were independant & very choosy back then but it was very personal service. I believe they are just a sub-company of one of the bigger insurers now & not as fussy about who they insure.

About the only thing you can do is ring around for quotes & give full disclosure. Make sure you read the PDS as not all policies are equal.

True. I'll see what the benefits of switching over are and if I can this early in to it. Only been a couple months.
