So the people doing the Blue Slip on my car have just called and left a message to say they have to take some things off to be able to read the engine number. Where is it and can it be read without doing this?

Engine Number? Where is it?

Apparently they have to take off coolant hoses, electrical stuff, part of the coolant system etc to be able to just read the engine number and then put it all back together again. Thanks for the surprise hour or two of labour on top of the apparently easy 30 minute job!2010 Skoda Octavia vRS Wagon

There is a sticker on the side of the engine (drivers side) which has the engine number on it. Its actually on the plastic cover that protects the camshaft wheel and timing belt.

Thanks Lucas. Just called them and they said they can see that but they need to see it on the block to verify it is the same etc. Copped an earful of attitude about it too from them. I should be the pissed one, not them!

I thought VW no longer had the engine number on the block & had it on the head?
I know that's how it is on the 1.4 twincharger - almost as if they knew they would be changing plenty of short motors.carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic

Should you be paying for them not being able to do their job?
I have rego'd 3 cars in QLD, an A4, my S3 and the Polo GTI. All took them ages to find the number. IIRC they have access to information on where to find the numbers, they certainly do in South Australia.
