Looking for words of wisdom! I recently bought (managed to pry the vehicle off this guy) a Red Octavia VRS 2008 (pre-facelift)

Basically, the car I bought had a few things wrong with it, but I'm having them looked at. The only thing I will say is that this car did a few clicks on the dash (161k) so for the age of the car that's a high but for a rare find like this how could I pass this up!

First was a gearbox problem, there was a leak coming just from the side of the box through what was thought to be a breather but that's been cleared up and my mechanic will just plug it up. Hopefully this will go away (the leak) but also there is a problem in the mornings when the car is warming up and feels like a vibration or shudder coming from the flywheel, like it's being held back. But after a good warm up it goes away, I'm thinking it's a sprigot bearing not working properly or the flywheel needs to be machined and balanced. The problem also is no faults are detected when it is scanned. My mechanic says he'll need to drop the gearbox and make sure all the bits are working ok.

Have replaced all the brakes and pads, and it's been given a service (oil, air & fuel filters). Replaced tyres with some Kuhmo's and have the paintwork looked at. There's a nasty ding (sharp and deep looking like it was run into with a screwdriver) that potentially could cost a bit, but I'm not worried about aesthetics at this point just want it looking shiny.

    Now the fun bits.

First on the menu my car will go into the workshop to be reflashed, with a claimed 147 to 190kW increase (this is to be seen). Tuning of the exhaust and the installation of an air induction kit. Has anyone bought the one from ATP Turbo? 3.0" Modular Intake Kit VW Golf/Jetta/GTI/Audi A3 2.0TFSI Turbo : atpturbo.com, and can anyone tell me if anyone does one here locally?

After a tune and get it running, I'll be sourcing some eibach springs (shocks, bars & bushes still good) and dropping it all around about a quarter of an inch. Finally I will want to do something about the sound system but I will look into that a bit more. I just want an upgrade of the current system, nothing fancy but something my iPhone can talk with.

Firstly, I would look closer to home for a CAI and hopefully fnd one that is enclosed so you don't suck in the hot engine bay air (i.e. apr, viezu, dubbadiction etc)

Secondly, the 147 - 190kw at the crank is accurate as many cars have been upgraded and the Stage 1 tunes for the 2.0TSI all show that sort of increase (even bigger increase for the 125kw version in the tiguan like mine).

Congrats on the new car. I've not seen anyone with that ATP intake......BUT......the 3inch intakes are apparently a bitch to tune for due to the pipe size around the MAF sensor. Most aftermarket intakes for these cars are 2.5-2.75 inch and work fine because the MAF size is same/similar to stock. So make sure you research it carefully before buying it or you might get stuck with an intake that wont work on your car and you will then struggle to sell it.

3.0 inch is also overkill for these cars as the turbo inlet is about 50mm or so and all the intakes taper down anyway.

Have a look at this intake instead would be my suggestion: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...age-82375.html

As for the tune, this is about what you can expect at the wheels with a stage 1 tune: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...ial-60501.html which is probably about 175kw-180kw at the flywheel.

Given the age and kilometers the car has travelled, there are a few things id be checking/replacing before tuning it:

      - PCV (Positive crankcase ventilation) valve. These are renown for failing on these motors
      - DV (diverter valve). These are also renown for failing on these cars. If your car still has the original one fitted (its attached to the turbo on your particular car and accessable from underneath) id pull it off straight away and grab a new version from DubAddiction for about $90.
      - Carbon buildup on the intake and valves. These engines (being direct injection) suffer from carbon buildup which clogs the intake valves. Given yours has travelled 160,000km id say you'd have quite a bit of buildup.
      - Ignition coils and spark plugs. Ignition coils are known for failing all the time on these engines and causing misfires.
      - Boost leaks from intercooler hoses and vacuum hoses.

Look forward to seeing your progress here mate. I looked at your new car and took it for a drive. The owner (nice guy) really didn't want to sell it so well done getting it from him. I'm just finalising getting my hands on a pre-FL wagon just like yours so keen to see what you have in store.

Thanks for the info! Greatly appreciated... I'll point these out to the mechanic tomorrow. It's in the shop now on a hoist. Shoes off and lines being bled. The reason this is taking so long is the idiots at the spare parts sent the wrong discs (not to forget they forgot about the order this morning!)

Yeah I got it cheap after pointing out a few things to him. I could have gotten one with lower km's but wanted this one as you know red ones are rare. Stay tuned.

Hey dont forget to tell him it is the Wagon...as that makes a difference with the springs needed.
Oh, also tell him you spoke with the guy in Camden / Ederslie who recomended him...maybe it is worth a few dollars off for you?

Where are you going to get them installed?

Currently there's a wait on the DV and so rather do it bit by bit, I'll wait till its available (while buying up other parts) to roll out the rest.

Nice - I would be a little concerned about the BSH CAI, could be rather noisey...
