nope, but part of dealer servicing is to keep things up to date. they use the VIN for any recalls, or updates to relevant parts etc. I told them to leave the RNS alone.

Okay so how do you know that an update was done? Keeping things up to date simply means typing the VIN into a data base and seeing if there are updates to do. If there are no applicable updates they have nothing to apply.
Unless you have confirmation from the dealer that they did do an update you have to assume that they didn't. It sounds to me like you might have a psychosomatic gearbox improvement. You will be absolutely astounded to know how many people truly believe that their cars drive better when they pick them up from a service and all that has been done to improve the driving is to paint the tyres black. You pays your money you pick up a nice clean car and low and behold your brain tells you everything is better.

do you check the exact quantity, brand and weight of the oil that they put in the engine? are you there the entire time your car is serviced? did they mention who and how long each staff member spends on your car?

you just said yourself, they check the VIN and see if there are updates.

fortunately, I don't have any mental condition that may cause any hallucinations. but thanks for alluding to it. way to make friends!

          New DSG firmware

Mine went in for a service a couple of weeks ago, and I was told it needed a flash upgrade of the gearbox and it was a "recall issue" upgrade, so there was little choice.

It feels strange now. Can't say I like the new programming. It seems sluggish compared to the old firmware.

give it some time, mines back to where it was, except for a few pre-programmed things in S mode.

my MY10 118TSI wagon had 30K service done at richmond a month ago, they also did a firmware update on the DSG as it was lurching. It softens the changes in drive and also holds first longer than 17km/h but it was a band-aid fix and it started to lurch again, is now going in at the end of April for new clutch packs.
More bad news is the wife's MY11 118TSI hatch is now shuddering and lurching so I may be taking that in for warranty once i get mine back, hers seems it might be Mechatronic though as it's slow to take up reverse as well. Thank god VW have exteded the warranty out in goodwill

Ok, I have just gone from a 6sp man to a DSG (both RS). I'm still getting used to the DSG but was wondering if the following are normal:
Sport mode: seems to hold s2 and in particular s3 for way too long after a spirited burst of driving
Sport mode: kicks down to s3 all the time even if you have not given it a bit, can't seem to settle in s4 or 5 and lockdown sooner or provide a sharper throttle response
D: very light shudder in d1 on take off , between 5-10kph

Am I just concerned about a 'normal' DSG?

                  Re: New DSG firmware

Shuddering at low speeds is normal for dsg in most regular cars.

for those very reasons - i hate/never use "sports" mode.

mine only judders every so slightly when in 1st, but only while in manual mode.
no sign of it at all when in normal/drive mode.

Interesting darkshadow... I was thinking an update might actually make it behave reasonably. It seems that whoever developed S mode thought you wanted to drive like a nutcase rather than want a slightly longer hold of a gear and a few more revs before shifting up or kicking down a little sooner.
I, like yourself, am now tending to avoid S and stick with D

Actually, it's not. There shouldn't be any shuddering because if its shuddering, then the clutches are slipping far too much. Even in my GTI the car never shuddered with new clutches in it, either time and these things will torch the dq200 clutch packs with the standard VW software like there's no tomorrow.

Hitman, I think you will find they more than likely just did a reset or applied the 37g7 service campaign which updates the software to make sure that the solenoids in the mechatronics unit fully release the fluid in them and the can reseat to their fully rested position, that is of course if the specific dsg you talk about is a dq200.

My experience, for what it's worth (7 speed DSG in Octavia 1.8 TSI)...
All OK until it failed after about 25k and wouldn't stay in gear one night driving through the city.
(The tow truck driver commented to the effect that he'd seen a lot of DSG failures before of course)

So back to the dealer & the mechatronics unit was replaced, all was good again for a while.
Then I started to notice the 1st to 2nd gear shudder, and new firmware update was applied during a service,
and the car was booked in for two days while a new clutch pack was installed.

That did the trick, so far so good now (a couple of months ago)
But with it coming out of warranty at the end of this year, naturally I'm a bit nervous...

I think sports mode was designed for taking the car to the track or having a thrash. its perfect for that IMO.

If you don't like the shift positions in S mode, try M and do it yourself

well now my wife's Octavia (7spd DSG) is also shuddering. So bad that the other day when accelerating from 2nd it shuddered so violently that the drivers side window decided it would wind itself down and then would not respond at all to the switch until I turned the car off started it again, only then would the window go up. Consequently, it will also now go in to Skoda for a warranty claim, once mine is all finished.

Oh and an FYI... I contacted Skoda customer care about the 5yr extended warranty on DSG that VW are now doing and asked if it would extend to Skoda owners the same and I was promptly told no and that it was for VW badged vehicles only

                                service receipt says completed 37G8

Oh it also went in for the auto wipers not turning off when windscreen is dry and starting when I adjust the centre mirror and they said non genuine windscreen so not their problem. What a joke! If I use non OEM brake pads and the caliper fails are they not going to honour that as well? The windscreen was also put in by a Skoda Dealer!
