  • The Octavia fuel consumption thread

    Hi everyone,

I have always thought of myself as a bit of a fuel consumption nerd and was wondering what sort of usage people are getting out of their Octy's.

I do a lot of highway driving in my job and don't drive like a knob, but I do like a good blast in the right conditions and circumstances.

In some way I guess this could lead to views on the change in consumption (both up and down) with modified cars.

I propose the following details with my car as the example:

Year & model - 2012 VRS TSI wagon with DSG
    Mileage - 13,000km in 4 months
Modifications that may affect consumption - None
Average consumption according to MFD - Consistently around 8.1L/100km.

      2007 118TSI M6 Elegance hatch. 105,000km in 4.5yrs
average consumption over the life of the vehicle = 6.7L/100km
The last few tanks have been 6.0L/100km because there are road works on my commute & a lot of it is 80kmh.
6.3L/100km average for the last 4,000km.

      mods that may affect consumption: Bluefin remap (better down low, worse up top);30mm front spring drop (definitely improved the fuel consumption getting the nose closer to the road);16x7.5 wheels & 225/55x16 tyres - they weigh 3.5kg more per corner than OEM & they've removed the 10% innacuracy in both the speedo & the odometer. My xxL/100km is accurate whereas other Elegance hatches actually get xxL/90km & vRS's get xxL/94km;

I've been getting around 900km before the light comes on.

Here's my fuelly page, but I've been working so much I haven't had a chance to update it for awhile...
              Actually, I'll do it now!

Currently Driven: 10000km over the past 4 months. A lot of my trips are either to Sydney or Newcastle. Lots of freeway/main roads. I use it for delivery driving 5 nights a week too, which adds a bit.
                    Current Average: 6.2 L/100km.
                    Usual Average: 6.7-7 L/100km.
Best Average: 4.6 L/100km Oddly enough, was from Canberra to home via the bottom of the Blue Mountains, at the speed limit too... No air con on though, didn't need it.

For those people who have iPhones and who want to keep track of fuel consumption there is a great app called Accufuel (Remarkable Applications | Appigo) that I have been using since I got my Skoda. You can export the data as a csv file if you want to play with it more in Excel.

                          Signature says almost all.

Best intermediate distance indicated L/100 km has been 4.8 from Canberra to Sydney CBD (downhill), 4 persons no luggage.

Car is always very heavily loaded on country trips........

I've only put 3 or 4 tanks through mine (147 DSG) - has the APR ECU update
First tank only did 480km due to excessive right foot
Getting 515km out of a tank driving to work

(MFD says 6.7 over 14,000km from previous owner)

Just picked up my 2012 147 Manual wagon a few days ago, no mods.
Only done one tank so far, got 655km with 40km remaining when I filled up.
Pretty happy with that, the first 200km was suburban/city driving and the rest was a single return trip on country hwy from Melbourne to Shepparton/Kyabram and back.

ave 6.8 lt/100km on the way up and 6.5lt/100km on the way back, in the xr5 I used to get around 8.5lt/100km on the same trip.
