I own a new vRS for 3 weeks. I have had the 2-3k RPM rattle noise in my 2.0 TSI which I got rid of last week by attaching a dampening clamp. Having +1700km on the odometer I started using the paddle shifters to play a bit with the engine and transmission. After having manual gearboxes in the past, I really enjoy the 6-speed DSG. I miss the manual a bit but not enough to regret buying the DSG. I hope at least...
Here is my concern. When I manually reduce the gear (5 to 4, 4 to 3, etc) e.g. when approaching the traffic lights this is what happens: first the car seems to accelerate a bit for a fraction of a second (I suppose that this is caused by the releasing clutch), then I hear a short strange noise similar to clapping, then the revs increase and the engine starts to brake as expected. All this is really not longer than a second in total and happens only if I reduce gear with the gas pedal released completely. When I reduce gear with acceleration (when overtaking someone), there is no sound and the gear reduction seems quicker. Also, when I just let go of the gas pedal before the traffic lights and the car gradually slows down, the transmission changes the gears down without any noise and very smoothly.
After having the rattling noise I might be a bit supersensitive to noises coming from my new car. But anyway, I thought I might ask if this clapping noise and general behavior that I described is normal.
