Welcome to the world of kids in seats up to 7 and most likely beyond, my parents think that we are all crazy having seats that long and also think that people are nuts getting the big cars when they got by with a small wagon with 3 of us (I have two young kids). The difference is that at the age of 4 I wasn't even in a car seat anymore. I can't even remember what age my younger sister was in one, but it wasn't that long either. The longer the age range is, the bigger the seats get to fit them physically and the other way was to use those booster cushions, those are pretty much avoided these days.

As my mum says, we didn't do all that and you kids were fine, true but we only were involved with car accidents when we were all older. We knew people who had young kids killed or permanently disabled from car crashes, it just wasn't us.

She also thinks we are nuts for avoiding foods while pregnant for Listeria, and when she says that I remind her that several of her friends had stillborns that probably were due to it, but noone knew what caused it back then!

i know this feeling - I have 2 car seats in the back and they are monstrous. only a little storage container thing for some random toys and spare clothes sits in the middle seat now.

Wow your reason for change is even worse than mine. We have just fitted two new Safe-n-sound maxi rider chairs to the back of our Outlander and I could swear that there is no way an adult could sit in between them (this newer style of seat is huge but it does have inbuilt speakers). The slightly smaller chairs were moved to my Superb and there is even less room there. But both cars take the side by side pram in the boot with room to spare.
