  • New 2014 Octavia Spied!

I think I will wait for the new model. It seems to be larger than the current model which id like to see for myself in the flesh.

If the new model arrives in Nov, is it only then we would be able to order one? Or can you generally order before they arrive?

If the new model physically arrives in Nov it will have left Europe about 6 weeks earlier and will have been ordered probably a month at least before that so that means that around the middle to end of August Skoda Australia will have details of the models available, the options and the pricing structure.
If you are prepared to order sight unseen you may find a dealer who will take your deposit in late August or September.
If the November date is purely a press release date when orders will be taken then cars will not be available for delivery until at least February or March 2014.

Are we assuming the DSG issues VW has had have been corrected?

Sorry I'm new to the whole DSG problem. A friend pointed out I should be wary of any second hand skodas with DSG.

            Don't Skoda's get the better SSG's?

There are 2 types of DSGs.

6 speed wet clutch used in applications where the stock output of the engine is >250nm. These are the original DSG & had some problems with mechatronics early in the piece but these problems seem to be few & far between now.

7 speed dry clutch used for applications up to 250nm. These are the DSgs that have issues with a heat & chemical reaction between the DSG fluid & the metal in the mechatronics.

So yes, if it has the 7 speed DSG then I'd be a bit wary but if it's the 6 speed with a service history (oil & filter change every 60,000km) then go for it. Better still, buy a manual - they are a sweet, easy shifting gearbox.

MJKoolio: I was fed a line by the salesman when i bought mine in 2008 that the DSGs in Skoda came out of the Audi factory. I assumed this was salesman BS as there is no way of knowing which factory they come from (are there multiple DSG gearbox factories?).

I have no doubt that Skodas are slightly better built than VWs but that is as a whole & not at a component level.

                • I love our manual and don't like the quirks of the DSG. Especially reverse parking uphill is not pleasant.

The recent DSG recall was specific to the 7 speed version & built between certain years.
Yes, certain Skoda models r affected.

The 2014 models in the VAG group "won't" have those issues.

I have the hardest possible torque mount insert you can buy, with my heavy rattly diesel... Combined with the manual gearbox, vibrations are a non-issue.
In a petrol with the DSG, the vibes were a big problem and I don't think I could live with them.
