  • so the outside is a bit bland for my tatstes...but I am sure it will be nice in the metal...
I will have to see one for real to really make a judgement.

The inside looks promising! looks like we will get the same verion of the new VW infotainment system with the updated graphics and 'swipe' feature like an iphone...

do we actually have dates for Aust as yet? firm dates?

I would be surprised if we get the LED option to start with its pushing a little into VW/Audi territory at the moment. It would also allow Skoda Australia to offer a mid life "upgrade" in a year or so if they leave them out to start with. I guess it all depends on what the factory charge for these and how agreessive the people at Skoda want to be (or are told to be by their masters).

But if you get a current RS with the optional xenon headlamps (like your car KIWI), isn't it the same thing (xenons with LED running lights)?

              +1
the LED they're referring to is the LED DRLs in the headlight unit itself, as it is currently available, though separated, for the RS.
not LED xenons like those offered on Audi, Merc etc etc etc.

non RS octavias will get the one without the LED DRLs.
or maybe it will be availale at cost across the range?!?!

wat's different though, in comparison to the current octavia, is that it looks like it (new octavia) will score bi-xenons.

              • I thought they meant LED head lights like some of the higher end Audis. I can see that the LED is just strip across the bottom so yes I think that with Bi-Xenons would be definite even if it's still an option. They won't de spec the new models surely.

I'm sure that both xenon options will be available in Europe (on pre-FL models, halogen headlamps were standard in Europe but the optional projector beam lights - standard here - as well as xenons were an option) but I'm sure Skoda Australia will offer the xenon/LEDs here as the only optional headlamp upgrade. I can see the bi-xenons thing too but only with the LED running light version? The inside of that design looks like there's nothing there and the label says it's just a decorative element.

We'll know more on Wednesday morning I hope.

ur actually right - i got it wrong.
on looking at the pic again, and taking note of the bulb used, the "TOP2" version does actually have Xenon LED.

                    type 1 - halogen
low beam = reflector; h7 bulb
high beam = reflector; h15 bulb
high beam flash = same as high beam
                    Additional DRL = N/A

                    type 2: bi-xenon (top1)
low beam = projector; d3s bulb
high beam = same as low beam utilising shutter
high beam flash = reflector; p21/5w bulb
                    Additional DRL = N/A

                    type 3: bi-xenon LED (top2)
low beam = projector; high power LED bulbs
high beam = same as low beam utilising shutter
                    high beam flash = ???
Additional DRL = w5w bluevision bulb

hopefully we do get type 3 option here in oz.

with the current RS, we only got AFS xenons. other parts of the world got the choice to option the far better/superior AFS-2 xenon. the one that automatically alters the low beam based on highway/city/rain conditions.
gen 1 afs simply swiveled left right up down.
gen 2 afs alters beam pattern.

                    i believe the superbs got afs-2 bi-xenons.

                      • I think I will go back to not worrying about something I have no control over until firstly the Australian specs are released and secondly if i decide to buy one.

according to the pictures they are, powered by "2x High Power LED".

and with the DRLs, they're not LED anymore, like it is on the RS now. they're w5w bulbs to illuminate that thin strip inside (bottom) the headlight itself.

but as k1w1 said, its best to wait till all is revealed.

here is the back light pattern. two types available in this case.....

I happen to speak fluent German, a gift from living in Germany for a few years

Lichtleiter is fiber optics, which is referring to the fiber optic strip that runs the length of the headlight in the third picture. The headlight remains bi-xenon and the parking lights and daylight running light uses the fiber optic LED strip...

                            • I have to say, I'm honestly a little disappointed with the new Octavia. I spoke to Skoda Germany and they couldn't confirm if a new RS will come out for this car. The have confirmed that there will be a 1.4/1.6/1.8ltr Petrol and a 1.9TDI coming out.

But the styling looks a little dull to be honest, and has too much of the Jetta/Passat.

Shame they didn't came up with their own lines of car like all the previous Octy's

                              • there is going to come a time when u won't b able to tell the difference between an audi, a vw, a skoda & a seat.
vag is using the same brush & parts bin for everything, even more so now thanks to this new mqb platform.
the only difference in part numbers will b related to the name badges/emblems stuck on the car!!!
the rest will be a,b,c or d revisions of the same part.

as for the new rs - i wouldn't expect to c anything till 2014.
