Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Talk to your local person. As they are franchises the level of skill and enthusiasm varies from one to another. I have the guy who does our area coming to have a look at a small scratch I noticed on the OSF guard of the S3 on Wednesday so I guess I will find out whether he does then but he didn't say no when I talked to him earlier today.

I think it might be the same guy Kiwi, I'm in around Glen Waverley so likely to be close to them.

Thanks for the link K1W1, the paintwork is probably an easy fix, it's the dent/bending of the panel i'm more concerned about. Would you recommend just a regular smash repairer for this, or are would those paintless mobile dent removal people be able to do this?

The panel itself has bent slightly (folded?), on the top part of the wheel well. The photo doesn't show it at all, I will try and post another one later today.

Unfortunately it was not at a shopping centre, it was outside my in-law's house, which is a quiet cul-de-sac.

If the paint is not broken it would be worth getting one of the instant dent repair people to at least look at it. I saw some magic work done by them after the hail storms in Melbourne in 2010 including on our S3 that had been hit hard enough to break the windscreen AND a headlight lens.

Straight from the horses mouth so to speak. I showed a nice colour print of the photo to my guy and he reckons it would be an easy repair (including the crease under the light but couldn't comment on the guard part as it's hard to see in the picture).
Price estimate - less than I said but obviously it depends on what the bloke in Perth says.

Excellent - thanks for that, I'll contact the Perth guy and see what he says then

I'll let you know what the quote comes to

Unfortunately it doesn't seem like the Perth guys in the area I live or work do Paintless dent removal

Will try a few other PDR places though

Hey mate, wondering how you went with this. Placed too much trust in the rear sensors today in the RS and scraped the rear bar in a similar fashion, hoping to avoid a full respray as its just a chip out of the paint and a few scrapes.

Haven't progressed anywhere as yet - haven't had the time unfortunately

Sorry to hear about your bump... Did you hit a pole or something? (about the only way I can think of that the sensors don't work?)

He he, I might let you know how I go. Was reverse parking in a sloped road, could see the pole, but the sensor was not going off and I was checking the righthand mirror. Crunch. I think the slope had the radar bouncing at odd angles.

Poles are sometimes not "seen" by the sensors - they appear to have a certain sideways range... And if the pole is between the two sensors you're out of luck. :/

If the bar is only scraped and not damaged or dented a touch up person should be able to fix it fine. One of the guys at work did the same as you on his silver Audi A4 at after about 1/2 hour and $150 or so there is no way you would ever know it happened. The fix was a couple of years ago now but even today you can't tell.

Cheers Kiwi, I'm hoping it should be that straight forward (and cheap LOL)
