Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I'm doing a police report and need an estimated cost of repairs - any ideas? i'm guessing around 1-2k?

                  ah...i c the pic now.

                  does the headlight need replacing?
it appears to have escaped "injury".

Not worth an insurance claim probably.
It looks like there is a small crease in the guard that a no paint dent repairer could fix and the bumper itself could easily be fixed by one of the on site repairers. I suspect you would get the whole job done for less than your insurance excess.

Contact these guys to start with. My local franchise person does excellent work and I've seen him do unpickable repairs on all sorts of expensive cars.

Headlight is fine, as K1W1 mentioned, it doesn't seem to be significant damage, and probably fixed quite cheap.

My insurance excess is $400 though, and I doubt it will be fixed for that price?

I reckon you will be under $200 for the bumper paint and probably around that for the dent repair. It's hard to see how bad the dent is in the picture but as long as the paint is not broken they should get it out fairly easily.

you'll find that the repairs will cost about $1000 to repair the bar without fixing the headlight. Probably $1500 in total with headlight.

Any chance you happened to be parked near a shop with a security camera that may have caught the accident?
Go back and look around and chat to the shops surrounding.

You may be pleasantly suprised. If you provided a disc with the footage, the insurance co will most likely see it was not your fault and save you the excess....

I've got a scratch in my 6mth old Santa Fe that looks to be purely in the clearcoat but deep enough not to buff out without filling first (or the whole area would have no clear coat) I've been trying to figure out how to best deal with it, do those guys just do clearcoat touchup?
